s we all know, Miami has no shortage of glitzed out mega-clubs. If a new 3,500 square foot club is going to open, it better damn well have something to set it apart! Well, how about a 17th century royalty theme? No, I'm not kidding. It's been a while (a long while) since we've seen any worthwhile clubs pop up in the Design District, but with a playful (and out there) theme and an inspired design, The King is Dead is hoping to elicit a Renaissance.
The King is Dead is attached to, and affiliated with, Grass Lounge (which also knows a thing or two about themed gimmickry), but operates on a much grander scale. You may actually feel like you're partying in a palace at King is Dead, only with more house music and less court jesters. The design is dominated by royal purples and vibrant reds, while stained glass windows stand apart. There is also a large graffiti wall. It can't be that anachronistic; I'm sure Charles II tagged his name all over St. James Place.
There will be a small menu of upscale club-friendly foods to munch on (truffle French Fries with caviar immediately stands out), and a plethora of specialty cocktails served up in hefty 16th century goblets. While it sounds like something the Butabi brothers might come up with, you have to credit The King is Dead for trying something new. With new South Beach mega-clubs opening every other day, a little variety is always nice.
