Does one of the most buzzed-about films of the summer live up to its hype? While it arguably has the best title ever, Snakes on a Plane is not brilliant. But you didn't expect it be, did you? You don't come to a movie with such an in-your-face title and expect Shakespeare.

"It's not ‘Snakes on the Waterfront," Samuel L. Jackson once famously said. "You don't have snakes going, 'I coulda been a constrictor.' No. It's Snakes on a Plane."

And there you have it; Snakes on a Plane knows what it is, and delivers… well, snakes on a plane. 400 of them, in fact. Fortunately, none of them is a match for Samuel L. Jackson, who gets things under control with his signature brand of cool.

Snakes (or SoaP, in blogspeak) has Samuel L. Jackson as FBI agent Neville Flynn. He is escorting a surfer (Wolf Creek's Nathan Phillips) from Hawaii, where he has witnessed a mob murder, back to Los Angeles to testify. The hit man needs him dead, so he finds out which plane Sean and Flynn are boarding, and sees to it that his scaly snakes are onboard. He has them coated with a chemical that makes them super agitated, and ships them in boxes that explode open when the plane is at a comfortable 30,000 feet.
