Unlike the TV show, where Carrie's article focused each episode around a relationship situation, there is no such focus. Carrie and Mr. Big are getting married, but this soon turns into plans for the fashion marriage of the century, with a guest list of 200 and a Vivienne Westwood gown in tow.
It's hard to discuss the film without giving away the plot, but there are weddings, babies, breakups – and something very big happens, a snafu that metastasizes into a monstrous disaster. Subplots are in full swing, with Carrie's bridesmaids dealing with complicated issues of their own, ranging from infertility to infidelity, boy toy grief, and something to do with wearing sushi to bed for some experimental foreplay.
All the key ingredients are still here: Four women in New York searching for love, happiness and fashion – basically, the equivalent of a euphoric guilty pleasure in ostentatious designer gear. Every designer label I’ve ever heard of is name-dropped by the end of the movie.
