ucked away among the tall palms of Matheson Hammock Park in what was once a popular beach pavilion, The Red Fish Grill is the type of place you would dream about if you were stranded on a dessert island or a participant in the last season of Survivor. Located in a relatively untouched part of Coral Gables, the restaurant brings a touch of class to the area’s dining scene and gets five star for its romantic ambiance.
The menu here, while geared towards a well-heeled clientele, is not out of touch for the rest of us. The Churrasco Steak, ($25) a dish that is becoming quite popular in and around Miami is served with Argentinean chimichurri and Spanish rice. Something less popular, Dolphin Provencal, is served with artichokes, black olives, herbs and tomatoes on a bed of rice.
Everything about the Red Fish Grill exudes charm and romance, a far cry from the swank joints that dominate most of Miami. Here, guests can dine inside the beautifully restored old stone room or on the very edge of Biscayne Bay, where the sound of the waves gently lapping the shore is only the backdrop to your romantic dinner.
