It's nice to see a restaurant which doesn't take itself too seriously. At Ra Sushi it's all about fun. A chain of sushi restaurants out of Arizona, the brand just opened another trendy outlet in Miami. When a restaurant is owned by Benihana, the promoter of knife-wielding and joke-telling teppanyaki chefs, you know that you are in for a good time.

Enter the restaurant and bounce along to the Japanese pop music pumping throughout. Expect to be waited on by bubbly blond wait staff who serves up Saketinis and Banzai Martinis from a long roster of Asian influenced drinks. The bright theme translates into the sleek setting which is washed in red, right up to the light fixtures.

Tired of standard California rolls and salmon sashimi, Ra is an occasion to be experimentative in the sushi realm. Though some dishes might sound like strange combinations off the menu, they are a nice diversion. Signature sushi dishes include the chili ponzu yellowtail with radish, pine and cashew nuts and chili, or kiwi scallop sashimi with kiwi wasabi and mango sauce, while tempura cinnamon ice cream is a delicious indulgence.

The best part of Ra is their happy hour and industry nights. Not that the food is ridiculously expensive to begin with, but you can't beat fresh, and dirt cheap sushi. Between 4 and 7 daily, expect items like salmon nigiri to go down to just $2.75. On Sunday industry nights, spicy yellowtail rolls are just $3.25. Just make sure to wear your stretch pants.

This is one of my favorite resturants! I have been to the one in Arizona and the one in Vegas. Always impressed! Forget Sushi Samba on South Beach! You spend more $$$ and you don't even have half the taste or the service! Just wish they would open one in North Miami Beach! If they did, I'd be there once a week at least!

I had a blast the other night with all my friends. We went on a Saturday night and the place was packed. I could see why, the place has that nightclub atmosphere and the giant red lights all over the restaurant gave a shining glow to the restaurant. The cocktails before our meal were superb and the waitress who was getting our sake bombs ready was a tan bombshell. Then we got the only guy waiter, which disappointed me at first, but he was possibly the best server I've had in a long time. Although his recomendations seemed prewritten sometimes, his personallity shined and all he wanted to do was satisfy us and get us whatever we wanted. The Sushi was so different, but exquisite. I can't wait to go back next Saturday. Only bad thing is no reservations so be prepared to wait.

Not bad for a quick meal... but not really a destination dining type of place.
