MG, Om Garden has opened! I want to give you a sense of this restaurant's vibe (which includes using the word 'vibe', but its own mission statement says it best:
"Om is the Primordial Vibration, the Sound of all Creation. It has been seen as the first Manifestation of the unmanifest. Om Garden was born to help people connect back to their roots, reclaim their health, and to create a brighter future."
In case you can't tell, hippies will absolutely loooooove this place. If there's anything our hemp-wearing friends like more than Phish, it's organic vegan food. Om Garden, which either has a strong gasp on its target audience or simply is its target audience, serves all the best food to make you feel like you're really doing something for the earth.
The term that the owners use to describe their fare is "living food." It sounds pretty disturbing until you realize that they don't serve meat. The philosophy is to use fruits, vegetables and grains that have never been cooked. In fact, they don’t even heat the food past 118 degrees. The idea is that cooking the food destroys the natural enzymes and nutrients inherent in it, which helps the body repair cellular damage and create new healthy cells. Raw foodists also hold the belief that eating raw helps battle diseases, strengthen the immune system and aid in weight loss. While none of these claims have been officially verified, it certainly can't hurt, right?
Obviously, the main component of the menu is salads, which come in all shapes and sizes. The names of the dishes are their own best descriptors: think Blessed Broccoli & Cheddar, Cabbage Chi, and Soothing Cucumber Salad. Or if you're really feeling hungry (and that hunger excludes anything that once had a heartbeat), try the Supreme salad, an offering that includes quinoa, tomatoes, parsley, raisins, lemon juice and sea salt.
