Sporting possibly the greatest name for a restaurant ever, Kung Fu Chu is the brainchild of the Chu behind Mr. Chu’s on Washington Avenue. Sadly this restaurant is not a kung fu variation on the other location, with dishes jump-kicked to the table, and bread sliced by the waiter’s karate chop (sigh…wouldn’t that be great?). However, the design is anime-chic and the waitresses are adorn in Japanese schoolgirl uniforms. So, at least they are playing with Asian stereotypes. Diners can try some specialty sushi rolls with original flavor combinations like The Kung Fu Crunch (made with crab, tempura flakes, avocado and spicy tuna). A dim sum menu is also available for anyone who prefers their food cooked. Other options include small plates like beef short ribs with garlic stems and grilled Japanese shishito peppers. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is humorously campy, what more could you possible want from a Japanese restaurant?—P.B.
