    Review by Phil Brown
Joley has set up residence at the Hotel Astor, in the heart of South Beach. Now, before you get too excited you should know that spelling isn’t a typo and Angelina Jolie will absolutely not be appearing at the hotel. Still reading? If so, you should know that this Joley is the new restaurant that’s taken over the old Johnny V spot on the ground floor of the hotel, and one that aims to bring some much-needed class and deliciousness to Miami.

The 3,000 square foot space, designed by Nicky Bernstein (Michy’s), has been reworked, re-modeled, and released to the masses as a black and white space with silver accents. The space is a 200-capacity plus courtyard restaurant with the sexy visuals of a film noir. You’ll practically expect to see a femme fatal blowing suggestive smoke rings at you from the bar and on a lucky night, that just might happen.

Chef John Suley, from the original Café Joley of Boca Raton, presides over the menu. The man has worked with celebrity chefs Daniel Boulud and Gordon Ramsey, so he knows his way around the kitchen. Appetizers like caramelized scallops in brown butter, crispy prawns, or roasted chestnut soup should wet your appetite for the main dishes such as lamb four ways with cumin mint jus or braised short ribs with truffled grits.

In a room of gleaming, resplendent – albeit, South Beach-ish - minimalism, the menu

This place is a sleeper in Miami. This is a true New York style place with real food and real service. It shows the Chef trained with the best in NYC. I always ask for the specials or have the chef create a unique tasting menu. Make your reservations now because the word is getting out.

Definitely recommend!!! I just had dinner there last night and it was fantastic! A friend of mind recommended! I am a real "FOODIE"! If you are too then you will love this place! It's definitely a word of mouth place!! Haven't seen a ton of press on them so I feel I discovered something really special! There is nothing like this on the beach!! The personal attention that I received from the Chef, floor manager and staff was remarkable! My friend and I had a great time! The food was amazing!! The chef personally approached us and spoke with us for a while about his passion for food and service! Awesome place to take a date or experience amazing food without crazy prices of south beach! You need to eat there!

Super scrumptious eating that just makes your mouth water for more! If only I could eat here every day. Not some overpriced, fashion plate, Miami Beach Restaurant. Instead, you get what you pay for: quality cuisine in an outdoor or indoor setting that makes you feel like your on vacation (at least for the two hours you are dining)

Wonderful and delightful! We enjoyed every minute of or visit. We only just found out about this restaurant from friend but we will definitely go back and dine.
The service was attentive and friendly. The food was the best quality we've had on South Beach in years.
We can't wait to try the rest of the menu at this hidden gem.

Last night, I had the worst dining experience in my 12 years on Miami Beach. We spent almost $1,000 for three couples; this does not include the fact that we brought two of our own bottles of wines.
The service was non-existant and 2/3 of the tables were empty. It took them 45 minutes just to walk over to our table to uncork the wine. When we asked for a decanter for our wine, there were none available. When we ordered a bottle of wine off their menu, a decanter magically appeared.
You won't believe this...after we finished the entree, the actually brought us six clean wine glasses for the complementary bottle the manager was going to send us...THE BOTTLE NEVER APPEARED! After 30 minutes, a busboy walked over, picked up the clean glasses, and walked away. Not another word...
The food itself was below average and overpriced. The service was so slow that we decided to skip dessert and go to Dairy Queen instead.
But the most egregious error...they changed us over $50 for bottles of water that we never ordered. Then it was a hassle to have them correct it. I am looking forward to the day that a noteworthy restaurant fills this spot.
