  • Joe Allen Miami Beach

    Review by Sylvonna Beech
Joe Allen Miami Beach has been open since February of 1998, on the west side of South Beach. Although they say their attire is casual, they also have a myriad of rules such as shirts must have sleeves, you must have reservations (which are made starting at 9am and taken a week in advance, if necessary), and only Visa/Mastercard is accepted. I’m not entirely convinced, but Joe may just be a little stuffy for my taste.

The menu does look tasty, although expensive. Appetizers range from $9- $15, while salads run around $14. A few selections are quesadillas, grilled asparagus, steamed mussels, or grilled Asian chicken salad.

Their main courses range from $16- $29, and feature New York Sirloin Steak, Sauteed Marinated Chicken Breast, or Pan Roasted Tilapia. If you simply can’t afford a $30 steak, the also offer pizza and sandwiches such as the grilled salmon sandwich on Ciabatta ($13).

Joe’s offers a great selection of desserts such as New Orleans Bread Pudding, date pudding, warm pecan pie, and cherry cobbler. Everything sounds scrumptious, but the prices force you to leave picky children at home. You won’t want to miss a bite of your dish- not only because it’s tasty, but because you won’t want to waste a penny. Lick that dish clean- they won’t kick you out, I promise…*evil laugh*

if your first requirement is glamour, wit, beauty, fantasy, or any kind of atmosphere that is inviting, do NOT dine here....altho the place is meticulously clean, the food always perfect, and service unbelievably pleasant and efficient, and the crowd totally local (sans the sobe wannabes), the place looks like a freshly painted garage (which which it is, or was)..nevertheless, the lighting is soft and flattering, the noise level low, and the "attitude" absent...for completely satisfying american moderately-priced food, ie steaks, chicken, etc and the world-class rigatoni bolognese, nobody does it better, nicer, faster, more reliably, or more deliciously than manhattans little sister in miami beach...you go, joe allen!
