ack in the 60’s and 70’s Miami was the ultimate party port town where the upper class was made up of drug runners and porn stars. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Now the neighborhood is overridden with posers who live in shacks but drive BMW’s, trophy wives with more plastic in their faces than Barbie, drunk tourists, graphic designers and wannabe art buffs – a far cry from its superstar heyday. Circa 28 is the holder of the longest running liquor license in Miami which makes me think there’s still some of that 70’s cool factor floating around to be soaked up by those in-the-know.
The lone neon sign attracts patrons like flies to the raunchy bar masquerading as a gentleman’s club. Books line the walls and velvet chairs add to the effect. The dark interior provides an adequate shade for all kinds of naughty acts that are better left to the dark corners. Upstairs is more of a club atmosphere with a serious dance floor and a disco ball. Local artists and musicians generally make up the majority of the clientele at Circa 28. Go rub shoulders with the past and rejuvenate the neighborhood. –J.T.
