ngela Hartnett has been one of the culinary world’s most predominant women since she earned her first Michlin Star at her Connaught projects back in the very early 2000s. Since then she has appeared alongside her mentor Gordon Ramsey on his show, Hell’s Kitchen, which even furthered her notoriety. Now Angela is the patron chef at one of Florida’s most prestigious eateries, Cielo by Angela Hartnett.
Cielo is a clean, luxurious space with plush white banquettes, glass tables and blue accents that tie into the vast ocean view. Cielo is located within the Blackstone owned Boca Raton Resort & Club in Palm Beach County, Florida. The hotel is one of the state’s best and sets an appropriate stage for Angela’s culinary expertise.
Hartnett transplanted her signature modern European cuisine with an Italian bent to Miami unscathed. The dishes are to die for and you have to order at least three off the menu. Her take on traditional Italian cannelloni isn’t very traditional at all. The warm dough rolls are stuffed with fresh crab and seasoned with pear, basil and vanilla. There is a nod to Floridian cuisine in Angela’s risotto dish. Made up of watercress, Floridian frog legs and black truffle, this state supper tastes a lot more refined here than out in the Everglades. As far as secondis go, the duck, falling off the bone and dripping with mustard fruit and lentils with a side of duck leg ravioli, is my personal top choice.
If you have room left for dessert after you gorge yourself uncontrollably try the milk chocolate and amaretto parfait with a side of raspberry and black pepper sorbet. A three course dinner goes for $75 at Cielo and a four course meal $85. With an imaginative cocktail menu and an extensive, well-thought-out wine list, Cielo is a hard restaurant to beat in Florida. If you know one better let us know. –J.T.
