Cava is a Greek term that refers to a high end table wine or cellar. With that in mind, you should easily be able to guess what you’re getting yourself into at Cavas Wine Tasting Room. As promised, this is a place where wine lovers convene to sample the latest bottles, stock up for their home collections, and generally enjoy falling into that special category of socially acceptable alcoholics known as “wine lovers.” If you liked Sideways, there's a good chance you’ll love this place.

Cavas is owned by Carolyn and Rafael Hernandez, who brought Master Wine & Liquor to Miami years ago. It was through owning that beloved establishment of firewater that the Hernandezs realized that the community was crying out for a venue where locals could indulge in wine tasting. The result is Cavas, a state-of-the-art facility for all Miami’s wine-lovers.

I know what you’re thinking: “How could a winery possibly be state of the art? Don’t they just stock wine in those places? How state of the art is that?” First off, I don’t appreciate that you doubt me that much…I mean come on! You have to learn to trust. But if you really want to know why this place is considered to be state of the art, I have three words for you: The Enomatic System.

This is a special machine that allows patrons to sample temperature-controlled wine by the ounce or glass with the simple swipe of a prepaid debit card. No need to order from a waiter or even request suggestions from the manager. Just look for a bottle that you like and swipe. How’s that for state of the art?

Cava stays open late and certainly encourages people stop by and enjoy a glass, just don’t expect bar food or rowdy patrons. No, this is a place where wine lovers get together to sample the finest bottles in town and pretend that they aren’t getting drunk. You’ll have long drawn out conversations about wine related-minutia and inevitably end up leaving with several expensive vintage bottles. For Miami wine lovers, Cavas Wine Tasting Room just became your new favorite spot in the entire city.

The Enomatic Machines are a waste of Money. Just figure out what you are paying for a One Ounce Pour and a Glass which usually in Wine Bars is a 6 Ounce Pour but here it is set to 5 Ounces. For Example a One Ounce Pour Of Jordan Cabernet is $7.00 x 5 You Pay $35.00 for A Glass of Wine. That is What Jordan Is Costing The Store so they break even after 5 ounces is Tasted or One Glass is Poured. 25 Ounces to the Bottle which means 5 Glasses or after they empty one Bottle you just paid $125.00 for a Bottle of Jordan.....But if you are still sober (Which places with these Machines hope you aren't) you will figure out that the Bottle Of Jordan is Selling For $55.00 Retail at CAVAS and They Make $20 Profit on The Bottle which is about a 45% Gross Profit...Normal..(slightly high on that item but normal for a place in Sawgrass where Rent is High) Now....Dum Dee Dum Dum... Buy the bottle at Retail Cost of $55.00 pay a $10 corkage fee to drink it at Cavas...Where all you are gonna get is some stinkin crackers and cheese...Not Exactly Prime Rib or Black Truffle Mousse and the Make $30 profit.. Smart Wine Business Owners...Would Not let people figure out...let idiots walk around with debit cards and taste the whole bottle of Jordan and they make $90 Profit...on a bottle that cost them Wholesale $35.00. You can't mix Retail Wine Shop Profit Margins under the Same Roof Where You are Charging Wine Bar Or Restaurant Mark-Ups and expect that One or More Sober Customers Won't figure the simple Math Out. Put That in your Enomatics and Drink It!!!
