Loved the trailer. Hated the copy.

For example: "The insanely wealthy producers behind the Bond franchise knew that they would need to reinvent there superspy if they wanted to compete with Bourne and continue to milk their cash cow."

What is "there superspy"? I think the writer(s) meant "their."
And, who could resist the cliches? Who wrote this drivel?

Im a teen and Im a Clay fan BECAUSE of Spamalot! I didnt know what great talent I was missing because his spectacular music is ignored by radio stations. BTW: His AOL Sessions have had hundreds of thousands views and topped many digital music lists. His song On My Way Here is on Music Choices HIT LIST.

LETS SEE IF YOU COULD BE THAT SUCCESSFUL!!!
Dont bash people because everyone else is...be the better person!

    Greetings,

It seems you are on the losing side of peoples' general attitudes about Clay's talent and value to the NYC production of "Spamalot". I I too think you were going for hits with your article mentioning Clay's name. Attention please, don't you see that it just gives Clay more free advertisement, so YOU LOSE AGAIN. Silly you ! Too bad, so sad - Na, Na, Na, Na, Na.

For me Clay is an original thinker with an extra special personality, great voice, with great artistic timing in comedy.

Further, Clay has a bit of mystery surrounding him, which I feel is on purpose and working to Clay’s advantage. I applaud his body of works.

All you Clay haters out there, I feel sorry for you, you are missing out on one of the greatest male talents that has come along for a long while.

    Regards,
    An absolute fan,
    Sharie

Maybe they're too busy picking up all the press they've been receiving, but my second visit was not better than my first and I'd swear the plates have gotten even smaller. I mean so crazy small that when the plate is put down in front of you, whether you want to or not, you laugh. That's probably why everyone in the room was laughing a lot. Especially people who ordered the risotto cake, they were definitely laughing the hardest.

I'm a bartender in NY, and the recipe is excellent. I know it is because I make my lychee martinis with gin and mango juice too. I use Lichido (in my opinion, the best lychee cocktail mixer out there)and a splash of 7-up and Sprite. Good stuff!!

The management seem to be submitting ostentatious 4-5 star ratings to bump their overall mark up to a feeble "average". This is evident by the huge disparity between the reviews; either people are stunned by the disgraceful way Vegas Bar have treated them or they are giving glowing fake reviews. When there is no in-between something is up.

I sympathise with anyone who has had the misfortune to deal with these imbeciles. After planning our corporate event for almost three months, our contact switched all her phones off and stopped replying to emails, right up until a day before the party. Our performers and entertainers could not reach her or the venue to set up or ask questions about how to plot their shows. On the day of our party, one of our performers called us to say he had been spoken to appallingly and told not to turn up because "there is no party tonight". We found out our agreement had been scrapped on the day of the event from our privately booked entertainer, not the Vegas Bar. We ourselves had to make arrangements with three hours spare. We had booked a top menu and planned every last detail, but our very discerning guests were served what can only be described as swill and we had to set up most of area ourselves. Our performers were badly treated. Needless to say, the whole thing was an expensive embarrassment.
Vegas Bar did not apologise, and cashed our cheque (for services they did not provide) the day after. The woman in question is still employed by the Vegas Bar. The Kabin, who took responsibility for us after we were abandoned by the Vegas Bar, did however, show great kindness and understanding by accomodating us at the very last minute.

    fun new spot
it is called LK Lounge now not Lilykate (shortened the name I guess)
we had a table in the lounge for 6 of us and enjoyed the dj and cocktails
service was really good and attentive considering the bustle in the dining room
the food was good for sharing with friends, so we tried fondue, duck rolls, and 2 pizzas which were very crisp and fresh
Dessert was the best, especially the Monkey and the fig pastry item on the specials menu

Was I at a completely different party on NYE? Some of you people have serious issues; the place is absolutely georgeous. The crowd was trendy and good looking. Complaints because the drinks took too long? C'mon it's NYE, in an open bar and I had no issues partying until 4 in the morning...food was FABULOUS, will definately come back during the week for dinner.

Whoever gave this place more than 1 star must be involved with the owner/managers. This place is horrible. Venue is pretty and once completely finished it will be beautiful. However, management needs to get a clue. We signed up for a Thrusday night post work drink, about 20 people showed up. We got there and there were 2 other customers. Fine. We order drinks and it took over 5 minutes to get it. You had the manager sitting at the bar plus a hostess and a bartender. Then the chef comes along and has a seat at the bar while talking to a buddy. I'm sotrry, as a new place in Toronto this is not the way to get us to stay or to get us back.
On a typical Thursday or Friday there are 20 - 25 people from our office that head out. I can guarantee you Vegas will not see us again or anyone of the 100's of people we know that are going to find out how aweful it really was. We wanted to order food and they were out of BREAD. How hard is it to get some bread delivered to your "restaurant". We asked for burgers and they only had three left. Wine list was non existent and the "manager" had to take a trip to the LCBO to get us something and then charged 3 x as much.
As a new place in TO you love a group like us, you give us some free flat bread, turn up the music and smile. Good luck to the new bar that opens in your place in less than 6 months.

This was the most disgusting place that I have ever encountered in my entire life. I was there for the New Years Eve party and what a disaster. Meanwhile I told all my friends what a cool place it would be especially from the name "VEGAS BAR". What an understatement!!!! They should of called it the "Loser Bar". I can only see loosers going there and having a very lame time. Where shall we start...... paying $100.00 cover should have been a $1.00 cover because the service is not the kind of service vegas would give you. I can understand why everyone that have visited the Vegas Bar is so angry and disappoited. The time it took to get our drinks was ridiculous. The food looked and tasted like it came from a can. From first hand experience, I recommend you do not waste your money and time to go see this disaster zone. A note to management, you need to "shape up" or "ship out". I also advise that whoever is running this joint take a course called "management 101".

Wow...to say that New Year's Eve at the Vegas Bar was disappointing is a HUGE understatement. Dinner was terribly slow, the service was a disaster, and the open bar was a nightmare! Unless you knew someone behind the bar, good luck getting a drink. I have never seen something so poorly organized like that mess was. It's a shame, because it's a really nice place and the potential for great events in the future is there.

    76. Cheryl's Review :: January 06, 2006
    Cheryl's Rating: 1 Stars
Hello Everyone, and a Happy New Year!

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who has visited The Vegas Bar over the last few months. It has been quite an experience and we're excited with the promotions and special events that we have lined up for 2006. I'd like to convey my appreciation for all of the feedback from our guests, both positive and negative, as they all help us to continually improve our venue and provide a better product.

As a restaurant and bar owner, I feel it's important to publicly address issues regarding our guest's negative experience, to convey that we are aware of the problems and to let our guests know that we are fixing the problems.

Firstly, with Dave's review regarding the incomplete space, those events held before Nov. 22nd was strictly for invited guests only and were part of our 'soft-opening', designed to preview the space and to work on problem areas in our service. Secondly, in reference to the complaint regarding our restaurant closure on Nov. 24th, one of the perils of construction are unexpected mishaps which can sometimes lead to dangers to the public. Unfortunately, due to a drainage problem, we were forced to close the restaurant. We made efforts to move the event to our neighbours next door, who gave a helping and through unfortunate lack of communication with the event organizers, some of our guests were not notified in time, about the change of venue. This problem has since been rectified with a change in personnel. Lastly, in regards to the problems with our most recent event, the New Year's Eve Masquerade Ball: Please accept my apologies if you were not happy with your meal and I will certainly forward your feedback to our chef or if you wish to send your comments directly, you can email chef@thevegasbar.com. In terms of your masks, we handed out several types of masks, including high end feathered masks for masquerades. In terms of the open bar, the sheer volume of orders simply overwhelmed our stock, and our staff replenished the stock as quickly as possible. In regards to the fight, I can honestly tell you that we have never had one single incident until this night and this was rectified with our security detail.

Over the course of the next few months, we will still experience some roadblocks to success, and again, on behalf of the management team, WE APPRECIATE YOUR FEEDBACK. Just like what the review above says, The Vegas Bar isn't about pretense, it's about having a great time, in a great environment where ANYTHING GOES.

In 2006, The Vegas Bar will be showcasing a variety of events, including:
    Tuesday Movie Nights
    Martini Mondays
Mix and Mingle Thursdays (4:30pm - 9pm) (trade in your business card for a complimentary beverage!)
Unwind Fridays ($3.50 Libations till 9pm)

Thanks to everyone and see you in the new year!

I don't agree with the good review about The Vegas Bar. Went there for New Years Eve and it was very disapionting! It was supossed to be a Mascarade- well that gives you some kind of expectations about the atmosphere in the club- but when me and my bf got there- we got cheap, plastic and awful black like made of garbage mascs -of course made in China. The place wasn't decorated at all. Few baloons here and there to me it's not called decoration but being very very cheap. The food- suposly 4 course meal- was "no pick", but eat what you got and be happy. Bad soup, to much vinegar salad and tiny steak...well how would you like it? It was also supossed to be an open bar-well most of the drinks I asked for- sorry we don't have it...well to bad. If not the very friendly bartenter it would be a disaster. Never mind the fight, where a guy smashed 3 beer botles on another guy's head, running between people on the dance floor. Where was the security???
To me that was a very bad New Year's in Vegas bar. For sure not going back there.

I have been here on 3 occasions. The first 2 times for a soft launch and the actual launch party. The first 2 times I went there I only had a chance to see the main room of Vegas Bar. It was not finished yet and I was not too impressed with the venue.

I went back last week, and a lot has been done in the last month or 2. The place looks gorgeous! I saw all the rooms including Room 112, Denim Lounge and Snifter's Bar and Restaurant, and my jaw just dropped. This place kills Brant House! I was really impressed with Room 112 and Denim Lounge which is located downstairs. This place is pretty much 4 venues in one. There are enough VIP areas and the place is very cozy. I will definitely come back here.

The owners of this bar are thieves and I doubt they have a single bone of concern for their customers. The NYE ball was a complete sham. We paid 125 for "vip all inclusive" tickets what we got was the equivalent of paying to be kicked in the teeth. In freezing temperatures we queued for over 20mins, and again for the coat check, which we had to also pay for. Then again to get into the inner club. The decor was somewhere between a cheesy strip club and a building site. Unfinished, uncool and downright disgusting. We headed to the "vip unlimited drinks bar" to encounter a 4ft deep queue. As we listened to the sewer noise playing we waited over 1 HOUR!!!!! to get a drink. There were only two blind bar servers who could barely make a dent the thong of people desperate for a nye drink. So NYE2005/6 was spent at the bar waiting for a drink, no free champagne toast and feeling in tears at the absolute uncaring attitude of the members of staff. The list of horrors goes on. The women?s bathroom overflowed so you could wade around in 3 to 4 inches of toilet water to use it. The taps were not even installed properly. My boyfriend and I are over here on a holiday from the UK and we are shocked and hurt and this treatment. This is highway robbery and the customers who paid good money should not let the management get away with this. BOYCOTT THE VEGAS BAR!!!!!!!!

The Vegas Bar IS hip! I don't what this steven guy is talking about with management (which he can't even spell right). He obviously works at one of those boring clubs he listed. Every time I've been to Vegas the party has been rocking. And you want to talk about operations? At least they don't make you get a stamp to get a smoke in an alley...like some brant houses I know. Steven, if you're mad because they didn't hire you, maybe you should try Century?

Thursday November 24th was the coldest day of the year in Toronto thus far. I don't blame people for scurrying home after a grim and grisly day at work. So for those of us who stayed out, there must've been a damn good reason. A local not-for-profit organization was having a happy-hour mixer to collect money, clothes, and toys for underprivileged children on behalf of another organization. We raised a good sum and have a truck load of toys and clothes, and considering the extreme weather, we were content with our donations which will go a long way for some kids this X'mas. The biggest disappointment that the children will never learn was that the original venue, THE VEGAS BAR, shut the doors for that evening, with NO notification to the event organizers whatsoever. The event was coordinated for over 3 weeks, and for reasons YET to be communicated to the organizers THE VEGAS BAR decided not to open for business. The owners of the local Irish Pub Grace O'Malley's, 14 Duncan Street, was most hospitable in accommodating our group of over 80 people in such short notice. At THE VEGAS BAR, perhaps the locals are not VIPs like Shaquille O'Neal and the Miami Heat, but how many more visits are they making to Toronto this year? I suggest the owners may want to start earning the local dollar. This ain't Vegas after all; this is T.O. and we make a decent and honest living. "When you go to Vegas ... everything is smoke and mirrors."

Arrived yesterday Nov 24th to find doors closed...on a day in which it was supposed to be open to host a charity fundraiser. I see a sign on vegasbar door saying that the party was going to be at nextdoor at another bar on Duncan. Spoke with promoters who mentioned that they had received no advance warning of closure from Vegasbar management.
I don't know how they plan on doing business but I will never go back to this place.

I had to check out The Vegas Bar because it's the only bar in Toronto that is nowhere and everywhere. It seems like you have to be Sherlock or Watson just to find out some info; but I was determined (ps> www.thevegasbar.com). My friends and I went down last Friday for "crack." the old school party with DJ Tricky and Starting from Scratch. WOW! I stopped hanging out in "clubland" years ago because I was tired of the same old, same old: rowdy boys and "bailandos" on the speakers (you guys remember that tune?). The music was bumping; the floor was packed (with the right kind of people); glistening hardwood floors throughout, hot girls and hot guys behind the bars and, this is the best part, the SEXIEST washroom sink bowls I've seen to date (come on, we all know washrooms count!!!). Seriously, go to this venue if you want to be reminded that combining class with good times is still possible in "ultra-cool Toronto." FIVE STARS IF I COULD!!! HOT!

Having read the martiniboys review and those written by others who'd already checked out Vegas, we arrived for dinner last night with an open mind. The decor and space while obviously still awaiting a few finishing touches was sophisticated urban; slick, lush and open concept. Dinner was a very pleasant surprise; reasonable menu, excellent service from our waitress and great food (highly recommend the ceviche, their take on fish n chips as well as the steak). The severely limited wine list and the sound and light checks for the club during dinner were the only down side to our dining experience, but all things considered and given their newly open status I suppose a few glitches were to be expected. My only real complaint came when we made our move back to the bar after dinner and were told that we weren't really supposed to be allowed to move between the restaurant and bar... ??? In today's era of supperclubs who DOESN'T allow paying guests to travel between the different elements of their venue? Thankfully we made it into the bar regardless. The bar service again was excellent and the night was topped of by a great set played by Tricky Moreira and Starting from Scratch. I think once the glitches get worked out Vegas will be a force to contend with in the city's pool of supperclubs. Kudos!

I don't know how the first reviewer even got in because the place grand launches in November and all parties thus far were invite only; I went to the preview party sponsered by a gin company and the vibe was happening to say the least. Some absolutely georgeous aspects, can't wait. Finally a place in club land for the more sophisticated!

all i can say is that i'm sorry that i wasn't quite hungry when i visited bruyea brothers.

the food was excellent. the staff were friendly, though a bit on the casual side. the atmosphere was warm and inviting with a better-than-average design aesthetic. and i admit that i was tickled red...uh, I mean pink...by the men's washroom and those fabulous red tiles.

my friend and i skipped right to the main course as we were starving and not hungry at all, respectively. i ordered my duck breast medium and it was surprisingly done perfectly. the riesling sauce had a sweet taste that complemented the meal exquisitely. the meal came with obligatory mashed potatoes (nothing to write home about) and a spare helping of veggies. i was also impressed with the wine list.

i'd highly recommend bruyea brothers and intend on going back myself!

I'm not sure when the other review came in, but we've gone to this place twice on two of the preview parties, and the place has changed drastically. We tried to make a reservation, but their opening night isn't actually till Nov. 3 and apparently the grand opening is on Nov. 10. Anyhow, the place looks better than any of the higher end bars definitely.

This place is brutel, the review is way off. I went there and nothing was even close to being finished. The walls were not even painted (just primer) the ceilings were black and the drywall tape was ripped off so there were white strips. They had only one speaker working in the main room. I don't understand this review when nice places get 2 stars and worse reviews.

They've changed their menu, and it's a much better selection of food. i particularly enjoyed the mussels in a curry sauce and the kamakazi rolls which were made just right, not too much rice, not too much mayo, just the way i like it. service was outstanding, our server went out of the way to make sure that we had a good time. I'll definitely be back. The ambience is cutting edge, i've never seen anywhere quite like this.

Crossing Spadina at 3:00 A.M, you see many students and club hoppers reminiscing of their drunken escapades that night. While most people are going home to sleep off the beer goggles and outright intoxication, some are just heading out, or have no intention of heading home. Being a self-proclaimed club bunnie, I hate to go home at 3a.m, and would rather stay out somewhere with great music and a blatant disregard for the human need for sleep. One can go to any of the ten?s of after hours clubs in Toronto and hear good music, but at Boa they have something that totally entranced me, an Alpha Concept Sound System by Dynacord, Germany, this system will blow you away. I went there on a night that rez DJ, Kenny Glasgow was spinning and his mix of amazing tribal house and the phenomenal sound system, made me feel like I was swimming in the music. Although the cover was a little expensive ($30) it was worth it, not only is the music great, but the atmosphere is justly tantric. I would truly recommend Boa to anyone with a little extra spending money and a great ear for sound.

The line up moves quickly, but inside the place is dar, too crowded, and unappealing. Only "vip" people have access to the patio on the second floor, so don't wast your time going there during the summer.

Dont eat food here unless it's deep fried as fresh fly-free salads do not exist. The bathrooms get urinal stinky and sticky, but hey, you're here for the patio.

One of the best features of this place will be soon to change - thats right no lines! Tantric is a great place, good staff, cool people and the doorstaff are quick to point the "stush" towards another venue. Style code was in full effect - dress to impress - exceptions were made but only if you truely were rockin the look. Drinks are reasonably priced and the fingerfood was tasty, however a little more could be done in the lighting department as i could barely see my date when she scurried off downstais to shake it to her favorite house anthems. All and all, a good night - but a reminder to all newbies - downstairs gets hot, real hot - dress appropriately.

I've been going to My Apartment for many years, why? It's a good place to start a friday nite due to its cheap drinks. The Old place was lousy as far as design goes and the crowd was a mish mash of people with some good looking women thrown into the mix. The food was excellent. The music sucked eggs. Bascially the old My Aparment was a college type bar to drink your face off and dance to stupid music. Now it's been updated and looks very pretty, the washrooms are sweet compared to the old ones! The crowd is better dressed, the drinks are cheap and I have not had food there since the new opening but the music still sucks. They are charging 5$ cover but inside the drinks are still under 2$ before 9 I believe. Over all, still a good place to start the weekend, nice staff, friendly people but I wouldnt' want to spend more than 2 hours there- because they don't play enough house music - show up early get some drinks and split at around 9pm to another club, that's my advice. Adios!

Food was good, it's your typical sushi restaurant. Service was pretty bad. We were a party of 3 and there were only a few people in the restaurant and it took them 40min for our food to arrive and that's because we call the manager over to ask what was going on with our order. 2 Managers were just standing by the bar not doing like a good restaurant manager should be doing and that's going around asking the people if everything is ok. I've been to many many restaurants in the GTA and each one I have been too had good hospitality and most of the time great service. The only person who kept apologizing was the waitress and it wasn't even her fault. We actually felt bad for her. Later in the night one of the managers came over apologized with an explanation. All in all Banzai Sushi is a great eye candy. But to be honest it has a lack of being a genuine environment and I don't think I will be going back there anytime soon or at all.

Checked out Bonzai on Saturday night at 8 PM. The place was dead and it still took 45 minutes for Sushi ! Had to get the attention of the General Manager, who was oblivious, before we saw any food. At least they comp'd the Saki, but there were only three other tables dining at the time and I know the table beside us experienced the same problem. Food portions were small. Better deal at the Drake for Spicey Salmon sushi & big portions. All style and no substance will be their downfall!

I went to My Apartment this weekend (Feb 11 2005), my second time since the renovation. Drinks are cheap Fridays until 9pm so it's packed with after-work people winding down until 9, the place dies down around this time and then picks up again at 10-11 when the clubbers start coming in.

I liked the ambiance of the club.. easygoing, a small lounge with couches, nice lighting, and I'd probably come back. The only problems I had with this place were 1) the bartenders aren't particularly friendly, and 2) the dress code seems to change depending on what time you come in. If you come earlier around 5-8pm, the code seems to be what it says in their website: pretty much no athletic wear or ripped jeans but as long as you look clean, casual is allowed. Once the clubbing starts, two of my friends couldn't get in although they did not have any of the prohibited wear. What's worse, the bouncer did not even want to tell us on what grounds he made his "executive decision".

This caters to a mostly late late 20s to a 30s crowd. We are younger but weren't there to pick up, so that wasn't a big factor.

The most sublime meals I have eaten in Toronto have been at this restaurant, and the numerous friends and family I have brought to witness the artistry of Isam Kaisi all agree. Kaisi is a chef of the highest order, and presents dishes that are prepared with expert technique, imagination, sincerity, and soul - all this, in a physical space that is simple and elegant, at prices that are cheap for the level of product delivered. Makes me proud to live in Toronto - so Yorkville-bots beware: "first-class" is a state of mind rather than of wallet, and 93 Harbord proves it.

The club is at its best summertime when the rooftop patio is open. For smokers out there, the roof top patio has heated tents wintertime.

I've been to all the places around King St. and I find that this venue to have such a great vibe. Summer time at Cache is always the best, go for a drink after work, sit out on the patio or lounge in the back room with the DJ. Staff is very friendly - of course they have to keep their air of sophistication so don't expect them to be at your beck and call... Martini's are great! George mixes the best drinks and he did a great job with the decor! We love you guys!

Bishop's has excellent food that is deftly prepared. Fresh made pastas are perfectly cooked, fresh, seasonal, and cooked to bring out their best flavour. Wine list was top notch and the by-the-glass selection matched the quality of the food.

However, I haven?t seen a dining room this devoid of charm or warmth since my last trip to Wallmart. The environment is sterile. The lighting is neither romantic nor ?high class? though that seems to be what it?s trying to be. I don?t mind paying $200 for a meal but it should be fun and romantic. Bishops is not. RA

As a Born and raised Yorkviller, I came ready to be wowed after 2 locals said this place was better than Sassafraz. I found the dining room austere, pretensious, and cold (literally) although I did like the handbag rest. The staff was courteous and personable; the service well orchestrated. My disappointment in the Spring Menu was due to the fact that it contained several (more than 2) truffled dishes. By the third one I felt that it was deja vue. There were a couple of nice surprises; one being the palate cleansing sorbets, and the garlic soup was very smooth and light. We dined at Sassafraz the next evening and, in my opinion, although a little more expensive, a lot better (to my palate). In my opinion, Gary Danko's in San Francisco and French Laundry in Yountville also a lot better than the meal I had at The Fifth.

Last time there, I ordered the Five Course, as did my other three dining companions, and everybody received different yet creatively and deliciously put together courses. Chef went out of his way to accommodate for each individual's special requests for particular types of dishes. Love the truffle soup, the truffled risotto, and all the desserts at our table were excellent!! We will be making reservations for the kitchen table soon.

Give your name with the host, give your name to the elevator operator, give your name to the dining room host, give your name at the bar. You would think that the staff would tell each other rather than have the dinner guests go through this terrorist style security. Issues regarding securing a table outside if the weather is not cooperative ..... basically if the weather does not cooperate, neither does the restaurant staff. At least they do a great job informing you of the fact that you will be SOL if it rains before or during dinner.

We went there on a Saturday night and it seemed to be a lot of the 905 suburban crowd. But hey it was Saturday night, and they've got to eat too right?

It wasn't that busy and the service was excellent. I didn't even get a chance to finish my in between courses smokes, as the food came out too quickly. (This is a good thing). Opting for steak au frites and the beef tenderloin, we were not disappointed. Simple dishes, but prepared right, without any unnecessary accompaniments.

So what if it doesn't feel like an authentic brasserie...I don't think that's the
point. It was a nice looking place that fit into the trendy College St atmosphere, and the food was good, and the service was excellent.
Not 4 star food, but good food. The other menu items did look good, and glancing around at the tables, we noticed a lot of chicken being ordered (uggh). Perhaps the prices were not as reasonable as we thought, or people from the burbs really like their chicken? Anyways, couldn't get a glance of what the other menu items looked like (except for the chicken) but they sounded really good on the menu.

Anyways great place and would definitely visit again to try some of the other items on their menu. Perhaps on a Thursday night though?

They assured me that I would get a call back when the manager was in. I didn't - and so I called in again and spoke to the chef who spoke with the manager who called me. She promised a gift certificate to make up for their upset stomachs - even though it may be argued that an upset stomach over the holiday season cannot be compensated for. It didn't come. Customer service at the seating was incredible. Too bad about the follow through.

As on our visit to The Fifth the following night, we were disappointed after a tremendous buildup for Avalon. We loved the decor, which some find too austere, and agree the doting/condescending service staff can be a little excessive. At least we weren't forced into a multi-course tasting menu, like The Fifth requires. We began with the greatest openmindedness, but as the evening progressed-- very slowly-- we were disappointed in the lack of "wow" and impatient to leave. My veal entree was very flavorful, but my wife's fish - Turbot or something was a weird clash of ingredients. And our fois gras souffl? turned to disdain as it arrived as nothing more inventive than a bowl of sauce. I can't believe one reviewer here gave it 4 stars after being served "very overcooked monkfish and a poorly selected cheese course." Even the "cute" bathroom sinks are a little silly, after all.

As a food/wine connoisseur that has been extremely blessed to have dined at some of the top restaurants in the world, I came expecting to be 'Wowed' & was not disappointed. The service was impeccable for the most part, the ambiance was spectacular & the food presentation / taste was creative & delicious. The amuse courses served up were fun & provided lively discourse at our table. The appetizers at our table ranked amongst the finest presentation I have ever seen anywhere. My main course of lamb chops were superb & the Syrah complimented it divinely. For dessert, the souffles were heaven in the mouth & I was thankful that I saved a sip of the wine to enhance the experience. The entire staff went out of their way to make the experience, a birthday celebration, very special & personal. They even thought of my wonderful Dalmatian with a whimsically prepared doggy bag suitable for a doggy with impeccable tastes! Only some slightly minor nuances keep Avalon a smidgen below luminary dining establishments like French Laundry in my book, but overall this was certainly in my Top 5 Dining Experiences. I will certainly return.

This tiny lounge has been by far the best place to go in Toronto to grab a Martini (beware their drinks are strong!) and chill while listening to some cool beats. The bartender was great! Very attentive. The decor is upscale and cool whie being extremely cozy. I live in NYC and I hate visting T.O. because I know there are no cute lounges. Pretentious/glamorous/famous. Amber is like walking into a really great party thrown by your best friend. Have been to pretty much every supposedly 'trendy' bar from Dubai to Dusseldorf and in my humble opinion Amber is one of TO's best! Was the first place i went out in TO after moving here 3 years ago and its STILL my favourite. I dont know how they do it because there are so many amazing new places but somehow for great strong drinks- almost always a great crowd - and great food (when the kitchen is open), Amber is a winner. A lot of people say you need to be pretentious/glamorous/famous and all that crap to fit in here but if trivial stuff like that makes you too insecure to have a good time then you dont belong here anyway. i dont remember ever 'dressing up' to get into amber and i have enjoyed the warmest reception everytime. And for all the guys who think its too much of a 'gay' bar - i challenge them to find a patio with hotter/more beautiful, more stylish and more fun girls than Amber's.

Suck back a few chic drinks. Now this is an exaggerated cul-de-sac in the heart of yorkville. Amber boasts of fabulously dressed individuals however, without much class or intrigue. Probably the only good part about Amber is the people-watching, oh, and its locale. A good place to hang out after work during the week to suck back a few chic drinks and to people watch for about an hour or two. I wouldn't even bother with buying dinner - way too over-priced for what they serve. Other than that, there isn't all that much that this widely-talked about place offers.

I have to say it was the most wonderful experience I had for long time, the most comfortable and relaxed atmosphere and the food ,the service, the combination is one of the best city kept secrets an excellent restaurant that pairs simple dishes with delicious flavour and incredible value in museum setting.

The food was good, the service was exceptional and it was decorated amazing. I had the penne a la vodka and it was to die for...I found myself craving it the next week! Our waiter even called a club and got us in. We stayed for as long as we wanted and talked about everything! I was extremely impressed with the whole night over all. I strongly recommend it for a birthday before a night out because you can go in your club clothes, eat and go to the club after. We had a great time.

First off, we had to wait about 20 minutes after being seated for our server to approach our table and ask us what we'd like to drink. We have gone to the bar earlier for some drinks, so we said that water would suffice. Then, our server brings an open bottle of evian to the table. It was bad enough we had to pay for the water, we don't even know if the opened bottle contained merely tap water! Secondly, we waited for our food for more than an hour. Our server apologized once in that hour and commented that unfortunately we came after two big parties. We know it's not our server's problem, but something Management should deal with. Two things that made the experience pleasant: the dark wood interiors and chocolate brown high back booth seats, and the jokes we cracked about our ho-hum, tongue-in-cheek 134 night out.

Overall a great place. I met the chef and felt very welcome by his warm and gracious manner. The waitstaff is however not well trained and even a bit rude. This seems to be typical for the area.

I was incredibly disappointed with my experience at Monsoon. The service was terrible, the food hit and miss and very expensive. I sent back the soup as it was awful. No apologies from our server. I ordered the artic char and it was undercooked. I brought this to the attention of our server who just stared at me blankly. The presentation on all of our dishes was gorgeous and the other two entrees we ordered were very good. The beef tenderloin is served in a broth, which my friend didn't eat as the server promptly removed the spoon as she served it. The wine we ordered was not chilled and no appropriate substitution was made. The bill was almost $300.00 and I left still hungry as I had been unable to eat half of my food. Very disappointing. Not the Monsoon I remember from years ago.

lived - uninspired - middle aged - baby boomer hell. The servers look guilty for serving the food - which is not surprising - as would I. In all very disappointing what could have been a vibrant and creative menu is nothing more then pseudo postmodern garbage.
