amed after the bright flowers that adorn its spacious patio, Bougainvillea’s is a cozy little nook tucked away in the heart of South Beach, catering to everyone from club kids to bar flies. While I can't guarantee swinging doors or an old bartender tenderly drying glasses behind the bar, I can guarantee an old-timey feel, a rarity in this neck of the woods (the bar does kind of feel like its in the woods)
The bar's popularity is probably due in part to its vast drink menu, serving up everything from local brews, martinis and specialty shots to wine and mixed drinks. Dark wood and soft lighting only add to the charm of Bougainvilleas, which is housed within an old cottage built the same year as the famous stock market crash. Before it opened five years ago, the space was a gift shop, tearoom and most recently, a doctor’s office. -L.D.
