When you think of earth, wind and fire, the first image conjured up is most likely of the popular American band from the seventies (Shining Star, Got to get you into my Life). Coincidentally, this is also the concept behind both the décor and cuisine of chic Miami eatery, Atrio,

The layering of multiple cuisines is not an easy task but at Atrio, the lines are are flawless, the dishes, inspiring. Tucked away on the 25th floor of the Conrad Hotel, this resto serves up contemporary American cuisine fused with Asian and Latin American influences.

Under Chef Michael Gilligan, their menu of ‘La-sian’ (yes, it’s a made-up word) cuisine offers up a grand assortment of tantalizing appetizers such as Duck Confit & Vegetable Spring Rolls, Ginger Calamari and Churrasco Salad. What is quickly apparent is that ordering a meal at Atrio can both be an exciting and frustrating experience – all of the dishes hint at adventure. Keeping true to form, the menu presents many fire/water-influenced dishes. For mains, there’s oven roasted Chilean Sea Bass served with Jasmine rice, wasabi pepper sauce and teardrop tomato ceviche. The wild mushroom ravioli is ‘perfumed’ with truffle oil while the pan-seared free-range chicken breast is stuffed with a foie gras and plantain concoction.

Atrio’s sophisticated yet relaxing atmosphere is designed for those who truly want to enjoy life. Reserve a table by the window if you want to watch the sunset (fire).

The food at this place is unbelievably bad. The service is good, the atmosphere is good but the food is as bad as it gets. We had sushi appetizers with hardly any fish in them, they were a little smelly and the rice was undercooked. I had the lobster entree that smelled rotten. It was gross. I couldn't eat it. I'm by no means a food snob and it seems that when visiting an expensive restaurant like this you get food that rates somewhere between outstanding and ok. But the food here was off the charts...in the wrong direction. Again, the service was very good and the ambiance was nice, but that's where it ends.
