Location: 1313 1 Street SE, Calgary, AB
n this city that seems so new since it started sifting oil out of sand and became the Canadian destination, any shop that has been around for ten-plus years is easily considered a staple. The Belgian bakery Manuel Latruwe is one such old-school Calgary installation that is only growing deeper roots with age.
Devout customers may have had a slight palpitation when the bakery shut its doors to the public a few months ago; but, rest assured, the shutting in was a good thing. Couple Manuel and Lieve Latruwe have been busy hooking up loads of brand new baking machinery so they can increase their production and capacity. The revamped space will seat forty sweet-toothed nibblers. And don’t forget to drop in on a Sunday for the Belgian waffle special. Now open. –J.T.
