Location: Centre Street & 9th Avenue, Calgary, AB

Though it may require a salary from the oil fields to afford accommodation (or residences) at Calgary’s latest high tech hotel, one can balance the scales (and gain some peace of mind) by lodging within the Green-Energy-Efficient designed space. Combining a fondness for natural elements, the hotel has been outfitted with a natural wood paneling on the exterior and the attached office building next door is decked out in glass.

The floor-to-ceiling glass windows on the attached building is typically an area of mass heat loss that’s compensated for in the colder months with extra energy use. Thanks to a geothermal heating system, energy consumption will be at a minimum in comparison. Moving up to the top floor, a self-sustaining green-roof acts not only as a beautiful focal point on the terrace, but also provides breathtaking views of Calgary’s skyline. Christopher Vachon has been named general manager of this project that combines residences, boutique hotel accommodations and an office building.

The new Calgary hotel has 143 rooms all equipped with the now seemingly obligatory rain showers and a spa on the top floor of the space. Le Germain is a unique focal point in the urban cityscape that offers upscale refuge to visiting business travelers that support the Green movement.

Le Germain Calgary is now open. More info Here.
