    Location: The Core, Calgary, AB

The economy is in the shitter, and the retail sector… well… it hasn't been doing great. With mass layoffs and closures at Target, Macy's, Circuit City, Starbucks, and many more to come, it's a tough time to be in the service industry (as if dealing with customers wasn't tough enough). Yet despite all the bleakness and austerity, Brooks Brothers soldiers on with its expansion into the Canadian market.

The oldest surviving men’s clothing store in the United States, Brooks Brothers is as much a clothing brand as it is an icon of American fashion. Started in 1818, the store has clothed every President since Abraham Lincoln in addition to countless celebrities including Stephen Colbert, Alec Baldwin, and Andy Warhol. Aknowledged for inventing the bespoke suit, the Golden Fleece logo, and the button-down dress shirt, Brooks Brothers has cemented its spot as one of the menswear stores in the world.

The iconic American menswear brand will open a tri-level 20,000 square foot flagship in Calgary's revitalized Eaton's Centre, renamed "The Core". The store will take over Holt Renfrew and anchor the increasingly-upscale complex.

Calgary's Brooks Brothers will open in the spring of 2010.
