It’s always nice to see a Canadian designer doing so well like Paul Hardy has done. Originally starting off as a personal shopper, this Canuck decided to create his own line of clothing back in 2002. During Toronto Fashion Week, his collection was first displayed to rave reviews, including Fashion Television’s Jeanne Beker. She claimed that “a star is born-” and she was absolutely correct.
Paul came up for the idea for his new store when he realized he had such a huge list of clients with high-end clothing they wanted to sell. Hardy then collected nearly 400 pieces of “designer consignment,” and decided to showcase them along with his own personal clothing line.
Most of the clothing is 70-75% off, with items ranging from $99 Ralph Lauren tops to thousand dollar evening gowns. The best part is the thrill of finding a gem hidden within, and these gems just happen to be designer.
The shop itself is divided into two sides, incorporating a living room style feel in the consignment side, and a dark, hip vibe for Hardy’s collection. The idea for the theme was to recreate a space that feels masculine with soft feminine touches such as crystal knobs and delicate pillows.
Interestingly enough, the shop is open by appointment only Monday to Thursday. The goal of this is to allow anyone to shop in a consignment store and feel comfortable doing so. The store is also open to us normal folk Friday and Saturday (no appointment needed for the public).
Paul Hardy Design is a great spot for those who want to dress in designer duds, but can’t afford it. It’s like shopping at a very fancy Salvation Army with clothing from rich socialites.
