algarians are clearly itching for some dry pavement to tear up when the snow finally gets around to melting. All the waiting is making speed racers ever more anxious to bust out their leathers and go for that first spring ride with the wind in their hair with unadulterated, wild abandon. And now, Redline Motorsports, Calgary’s new bike performance shop, is here to make you feel right at home with those Easy Rider thoughts.
If you have any interest in starting a new hobby, this spot could promote some jet fuel ideas. Redline is stocked with goods and services that cater to motorbikes and their riders. Staff understands how precious each day of the Calgary riding season is and offer kindly to pick up your bike in the off-season for free and deliver it to the shop to be fixed up and ready to go on the first thaw. Deals on helmets, tires, leathers and boots sweeten the deal. The Redline crew does oil changes, tire mounts and balances while you wait and valve adjustments. They pride themselves in being speedy mechanics, but if for some reason they are too busy to take care of you right away they promise to hook you up with one of Calgary’s other venerable bike shops.
Redline carries all the parts needed to fix up a bike as well as some fine performance parts. With a full exhaust system, undertail bodywork and Dyno jet power commanders you’ll be faster than a road runner. But if you like to shop elsewhere or online you can bring in your own parts and just make use of Redline’s service. Lightly used machines by Ducati, BMW, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki are put back into mint condition and sold at Redline from $5,900.00 up to $9,800.00.
If you imagined Redline owner Richard Brown, who is single-handedly bolstering Calgary’s biking scene, to be a bit rough around the edges. Re-imagine. This a well-mannered, quiet gentleman who is more concerned about rider safety then the amount of torque power on a machine. But he has had his own daredevil moments.
“The worst I ever got hurt," says Brown, "was when I was going too fast through a farmer’s field and ended up peeling through a barb wire fence.” Despite his numerous falls, Brown has never broken a bone thanks to his dedication to donning protective gear. Gloves, leathers, boots and a helmet can make the difference between life and death in a bike accident. One of Brown’s reasons for opening up Redline was to teach new riders to ride smart and savvy. He was also hoping to create a kind off performance shop for bikes where riders can come get a tune up, affordable leathers, a used bike or anything else they may need bike-related.
Redline offers lessons at Race City Speedway for beginners or aspiring stuntmen. The latter school goes by the name of Hooligans Day Stunt Riding School. The whole venture sounds like the dawn of a very neat scene on bikes. Brown has made it clear that if riders want to drop by the shop to ask a question or to simply talk bikes they are welcome. Redline Motorsports will soon be home to Canada’s most hard core road racing team so watch out Race City cause they’re coming. –J.T.
