It seemed as though Calgary was lacking in the area of late night restaurants. Sure, some people consider pizza delivery nourishment at 12:30am, but what if you're just hungry at that time, and not drunk? What's a gourmand to do? Enter, Vero Bistro Moderne. Serving the usual meals of the day- lunch and dinner, Vero has taken inspiration from the Mediterranean cuisine they serve, and stay open past the usual dinner hour rush. The restaurant serves a late night's tapas menu with appropriate wine pairings, and stays open late enough for you to properly enjoy them.

The modern décor, features dark grey floor tiling and a black granite tiled wall with a contrasting strip of mirror running across it. For contrast, the red banquette seating lines the opposite wall, while the bar (possibly in attempts to make the place more club-like), provides a colour-changing effect with LED lighting. But Vero is much more sophisticated than that would sound.

The menu is Mediterranean fusion, with heavy Italian and French influence. Dishes on the main menu includes Lemon Poached White Wild Prawns with crisp leeks, edamame, and a caramelized pineapple and tomato salsa to start. For entrees, the Grilled Duck Breast with truffle potatoes, grilled veg and cassis port jelly, as well as the Pan Seared Sea Bass with lobster ravioli and oyster foam sound enticing. The tapas menu is more straightforward with calamari and zucchini fritters, yam frites with gorgonzola aioli, and the like.

On top of a great concern over plate presentation and taste, the folks at Vero Bistro have become a bit obsessed with wine pairings. Specials of the night are offered with specific 2oz. pours. And the tapas menu, which is served from 9 till 2 on Friday and Saturday (thought the regular menu is available as well), is all about appropriate drink accompaniments, with wines specifically paired to the various dishes.

So next time you get a hankering for something to eat around 1 in the morning, don't call KFC, head to Vero.

very tasty food!!! Good value, good portion, super tasty.
four of us went there last wednesday, we had opened a bottle of processco, the server told us we had a dozen of east coast oyster for free when we order any bottle of wine on their wine list. this is the super deal. the chef was so talented, she made the peach passion fruit champagne granita to dress up the oysters. We had the wonderful night.

i read the review for this restaurant and the reviews look really good. So me and my wife went there on Sunday and they are doing the three course special for $39. We decided to order. The first course is Hamachi Cappaccio with cantaloup salad, yuzu miso dressing, the server said hamachi is a kind of yellow tail fish. the presentation is like a art. I don't like raw fish for the smell but i love it very much. The garlic chips make the salad tasted more interesting. The second course was crushed green pea risotto w clams and hotchkiss tomatoes. Very colorful and have a very good flavour. Last course is the grilled filet mignon, it sounds boring but it came with the sauce called "cherry gastrique". The sour cherry sauce made the beef very tasty. I never had that combination before. The portion was really good and it really worth the money. We were so full so we had to try their desserts next time. At last, the chef came out to ask how was our meal, and thank you for us to dine in her restaurant. The restaurant is small but have a good sexy atmosphere. Red and Black is their theme. the service was excellent and the chef gave the personal touch after our meal. Next day, i recieved an thank you e-mail from them. I highyly recommend people give it a try. They are doing the three course lunch, only $15 and all tapa $7.

The food is fresh and has good flavor but the portions are too small for the price. Its not passing the bang for the buck test on my lunch menu.

My family went there on a Saturday. They were full. We really enjoy the food. The plate presentation is fantastic. We had the seafood platter that i had ever eat that before. All the seafood cook perfectly and juicy. The platter said is for two but i think it can be for four people as an appetizer. I had the cream caramel for dessert. It garnished with the sugar cage... very cool. There was some berry couli, homemade green tea gelato and white balsamic syrup with it. The texture was perfect and the taste was supper. I will go back there again for sure and tell my friends.

One of the few places I can comfortably order a medium rare steak. I literally starve myself before I eat here, because I want to eat everything on my plate. Dessert was pretty awesome too!

I thought Vero Bistro Moderne was so-so. I probably ordered the wrong thing, because I didn't really enjoy my salad (which was one of the cheaper items... yes, sigh, the sad realities of being a broke college student) that much. But, the other entrees on the menu sound and look delicious. I probably should've ordered something else...
