  • The Living Room

    Ellen Jakobsmeier
What began as an idea from the drunk conversation “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool to design a restaurant modeled after a living room?” has transpired into reality where the resto, aptly titled The Living Room, has comfy couch and sofa-like seating and the requisite fireplace to encourage diners to relax and lounge as they would within their own dwellings. Unlike home, however, one can’t walk around naked and eat in front of the TV, so the novelty quickly wears off.

Oddly enough, this Living Room is also the location of one of Calgary’s sexiest patio spots. The terrace is lit with candles and LED tree lights for an intimate low glow that is enhanced by the sleek stainless steel fireplace that keeps the patio warm in the early Spring late Fall months. The traffic (and car fumes) are barricaded from diner by a polished wood fence yet there’s enough going on in the street (i.e. other sexy local diners) that the table talk is never met with dead silence. Now getting back to that eating naked thing…

I always feel guilty pleasure when eating in the living room. What if I spill? Carpet makes clean-up difficult, but I am too comfortable to feel edgy. Go to the Lving Room, take your shoes off, wear sweat pants, feel free to change the channel. Or not.

Overpriced: flavours lacked depth for the amounts charged.

Inaccurate menu: found pork in both entrees yet none was mentioned on the menu ... pretty lousy for a vegetarian.

Food poisoning: hubby was in the anti-barf position as the bill was being presented.
