    Ellen Jakobsmeier
Irish expats alike can celebrate their native roots much like James Joyce did throughout much of his writings of Dublin while in self-imposed exile. This pub boasts a fantastic patio with the like-minded literary crew can sit in the sun (or preferably the shad) and flip the pages of Finnegan’s wake that only become more cohesive with each successive pint of Guinness consumed. The Celtic bands hit the road come the summer so you can expect an onslaught of nonsensical Gaelic to interrupt your literary leanings that not even Joyce would have understood (he intentionally never learned the native language). This grievance can only be tolerated with the “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” attitude where the amount of beer swallowed is directly proportional to your understanding of the Irish lyrics and/or accents.

Yep. It's another Irish bar named after writer James. Here they will tell you Cead Mile Failte, which means "a hundred thousand welcomes to you!" A tad excessive, sure. But so are you when you've been drinking to excess.

Perhaps you didn't know this, but Joyce actually wrote a sequel to Ulysses. Entitled The Next Day, this second book was only recently uncovered by a Joycean literary professor. "You see, the manuscript was hidden some forty pages into the text of another of Joyce's novels. No one had ever found it before because, understandably, no one had ever made it that far into Finnegan's Wake. It was there the whole time!" -D.M.

Sun eve Jul 27th. Don't even think about this place!! Dirty tables with slimy plastic menus. That's before we get to the drunken, loud mouth racist at the bar who should have been cut off long before. Hopeless bartender just let him carry on with his tirade, even the servers appeared disgusted at his lack of authority. Couldn't leave quick enough and therefore didn't sample food.
