There’s no telling if the owners of Tangerine Supper Club are big fans of Led Zeppelin or simply citrus lovers. Either way, Tangerine – which takes over the old Elephant and Castle pub location - is on the scene with décor and a menu that are setting a new standard for Calgary’s culinary crowd.

Executive Chef Paul McGreevy has hopped on the locavore train, to a certain degree, with his Mediterranean-inspired menu featuring organic meats, fresh fish and local produce. With the array of steak-centric openings of late - Kobe Club, Primehouse New York, Pinky’s Steakhouse and Prime – Tangerine is in on the trend.

To enter Tangerine, you descend into the subterranean – it’s under the Eaton Centre beside Holt’s - into the by way of an impressive chrome coloured staircase. With an intense overhaul, the space is really quite beautiful. In an attempt to inject more character into the venue (and supply a curious topic of conversation), heavy wood tables, paired with tufted booths, are set in with warm lighting and romantic red walls.

There's plenty to entertain anyone with a savoury bent among the fare here. Tangerine slots into Calgary's trend towards casual grazing over shared plates with hearty, rustic food, designed for everyone to unceremoniously dig in to. But, fear not; sides are sharable, while mains are standard size.

For starters, a beef carpaccio ($16.00) is nicely plated with horseradish vinaigrette, watercress and full-flavoured cheese Grana Padano. The caesar salad ($11.00) is pretty much the standard template, with romaine hearts (grilled?), crisp boar bacon and a dressing of Dijon and garlic. The appetizer-sized serving of ravioli ($15.00), however, is a rare treat; plump little pillows stuffed with chevre and brown butter.

I don't usually write reviews but my experience at Tangerine was so bad I had to put my $0.02 in. After waiting for our food for over an hour at lunchtime we asked the waitress how much longer it was going to be. She pointed to a nearly empty section of the resturaunt and said they were 'swamped but she would check on our lunch, oh what were we having?' 'Salad' I replied. She said she would get the kitchen to put a rush on it.

When it came the spinich was limp and old looking. It was expensive and the place looked as though it was still being renovated. It was cold and loud (just thought I would put it all out there).

    NOT Recommended.

I think the service and food SUCKED. I would never go back or EVER EVER recommend this to anyone......how can you mess up a caesar salad to start??? Then when you ask your server for utensils and she asks you what because she isn't smart enough to know utensils are hmmmm a fork, knife and spoon the things you eat with. So needles to say she never even got so much as a dollar tip

So mainly food and service is not worth it stay home and eat KD you will be much happier!!!

OK, I think that the review of MBO needs to be updated, food? I think its a "supperclub" cover for a trashy night club. Server was dressed very skimpy and there were a drunk group of rude men haggling the servers the whole time. Our drinks were empty more than 90% of the time and there is nothing worse than seeing your server chew on her gum while speaking with you. The atmosphere is nice...maybe they should just make it another Mynt and do away with the food..and the false "supperclub" title.

    VERY DISAPPOINTING

I would give zero stars but they don't have that option. I can get a better salad at Wendy's, over priced, service is horrible, It would be great for someone turing 18 years old who lacks sofistication and just wants to get drunk. Very cheesy crowd. When is Calgary going to get a place that is geared towards 30 something professionals. DON'T GO!!!! IS THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE.

So disapointing the food was terrible and the service even worse. I would not eat there again or recommend it to anyone. It was WAY over priced I could buy groceries for my family of five for less money and it certainly wasn't worth it. Save your money go somewhere else!!!

Valentines dinner for 8 was less than satisfactory. Our server had a major attitude problem, the soup tasted burnt and was served cold. Then our main course was served...beef tenderloin. Several of our party members ordered there steak medium well it arrived rare. They sent it back it was cooked again and returned medium rare.

The real kicker was the automatic 18% gratuity that i had no choice but to pay the poor excuse of a waitress. We were given attitude, she disrepected the woman at our table and had little to no personality and i had to tip here $96. Ouch. I will never eat here again.

Went there for NYE...paid $25 for NOTHING. It is one of the worst places to goto if you are going out clubbing. No matter how much you tip the waitresses/bartenders, they will still be serving the group of older men and their freinds at the end of the bar (supposedely the co-owners of the place). It is another one of those "wannabe" clubs that has bad music and bad ambience but people still go there just cuz its cheaper to get in.

This place sucks. Go there on a Friday night and the only guys that will be sitting there drinking will be guys from the Concorde Entertainment Group which owns this place. Food is AWFUL. Music is bad..even when they have a live DJ on saturday nights. And on Saturday night if you go there, you will end up waiting for a good 15-20 mins to get an overpriced drink

We went for lunch the other day and sat in the lounge side. I had the gnochi and my friend had the salmon. The salmon presentation looked nice. Mine wasn't anything spectacular. Nothing wrong with either. The service though, was NOT what you would expect when paying those kind of prices. All for looks and seems like NO experience. The table next to us was brought their bill and they hadn't eaten yet. Looks like they haven't finished the renos as the wine racks by the bar are empty and some construction stuff still left behind. Best bet is to go for just a drink.

I thought that the Tangerine Supper Club is a good place to lounge around for drink expect for the fact that everything is over priced and the service wasn't that good. The food court gives better service.

Too much hype not enough service.

Staff is clueless, slow and totally lack sophistication.

I tell all my friends and anyone I meet not to go there.

I think Tangerine's focus was more on the atmosphere than the food. The food was mediocre, when we asked the waiter about certain dishes he had to keep going and asking someone else to get us the answer. The menu was 1 page so you didn't have much to choose from.

I had the Kobe Burgers with rooted vegetables. My meal consisted of 3 mini burgers and about 8 potato chips which cost $24. Another girl had the canneloni which looked like the chef just threw the meal together in a minute, that too was pretty awful tasting. My husband had the Snapper and he really liked it.

After our meal, our waiter was no where to be found. We had to get up and put our jackets on before he would acknowledge us.

This restaurant could have potential if the owners put some thought into the menu and the food. I would be surprised if this restaurant was still around next year.

This place is way over hype and certainly over priced. The only thing that is fine dning about it is what they charge. I rated it 4 for seating because it is almost always empty. There are far more better places in Calgary to enjoy a dining experience without having to take a second mortgage and truly get the service the bill commands.

We went to the Tangerine Supper Club on Feb 29th for dinner. The food was terrible. The beef tartare looked so unappetizing and was very bland and tasteless. We left after appetizers because we were so disappointed. Ok to go there for drinks but not to eat!

Such a dissapointment. The place has so much potential but there is so much missing. We went there in February, the place was absolutely empty on a Friday night after work. The only people in there, the waitress informed us, were the investors. The food was very overpriced with what we got. And what is up with them charging extra for sides? Horrible menu selection. The managers did try to be very nice and came to introduce themselves, however, the complimentry drinks were definitely not enought to get us to stay. By the end, we asked the waitress to split the bill...having signed for my portion, I am definitely NOT THRILLED that the whole amount of the bill was charged to my credit card. Not only is it hard enough to shake the dissapiontment of the place, now I have to go through with a dispute trying to get the extra $140 charged to my credit card. NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO THERE.

Went to Tangerine the other night for nice V-day dinner. They had a pre set menu for the night that consisted of a lot of things that neiher me or my date had tried in the past. The food was excellent and of a high quality. The service was on point and they totally blew my date away when the delivered roses right to the table, they made her feel like a star and at the made me look like a champion at the same time.

I will happily spread the word to my freinds about this place. It was a lot of fun to dine at.

What can I say about this place... over priced and no substance. $8.25 for a pint... at least give me something other than sausage to look at. Very slow service and pretend-pretentous... much like BLVD. Come on people... open a place and at least use materials that look expensive instead of trying to fool Calgarians. We know what the price of particle board is! No issues in finding a seat though... not busy enough to even create a false atmosphere.
