    Review by Jennifer Toole
Initials are hot, in style and of-the-moment. Remember Sesame Street and their letter of the day spiel? If you do then you know what I’m talking about. If you want to hang out with the cool kids call yourself by your initials only. “Yo, P.B.! What’s up?” etc. After you get your abbreviated name down pat, head over to T. Pot China Bistro or the attached Café H.K. for some contemporary Hong Kong cuisine. You won’t be hard up for choices as each menu offers over 200 dishes with an extra 50 added at T. Pot for dim sum during the lunch rush. Try the shrimp congee or the Sapporo seafood ramen. Elmo would be proud. –J.T.

Let me first qualify my review by stating I am from Hong Kong so my review is from a knowledgeable Asian perspective. T-Pot is one of the chain of Chinese restaurant that follows the Hong Kong style cafe and restaurant fares operated by the people who owns Forbidden City, Sun Chei Kee, etc. T-Pot is split, by an imaginary line, inside such that one side serves HK cafe food while the other side has fancier seating for Dim Sum and restaurant food. The Dim Sum is very good for Calgary although pricy and their quality is comparable with the high quality served in HK and Vancouver; it is essentially from the same chef who made the dim sum for Forbidden City. The dinner fare is also very good and satisfies my most demanding and finicky HK taste buds. Their 7spice beef ribs and rock cod steamed in lotus leaf is my favorite. On the HK cafe side, the food is also very good. It serves the standard HK street food such as won-ton noodle, congee, chow mein, etc. Prices is slightly on the high end but reasonable for the cafe side. Their won ton, by the way, is very good as well as the quality of the noodle for the soup; the noodle must have a "crunch" when your front teeth bits down on it but yet it must be soft and slippery. Service is a hit and miss at times. Even though you pay more on the restaurant side for the fancy food, the waitress's service there do not match up with it. Then again, in Calgary, you certainly don't go to a Chinese restaurant for service and ambience, do you? Regardless, I can truly recommend T-Pot for dim sum and Chinese food. Chinese food in Calgary has come a very long way since the time I came here from HK in 72, and I'm glad this restaurant, and others, are helping to lead the way.
