    May 29, 2008 - Aaron Jacobs
All the key ingredients are still here: Four women in New York searching for love, happiness and fashion – basically, the equivalent of a euphoric guilty pleasure in ostentatious designer gear. Every designer label I’ve ever heard of is name-dropped by the end of the movie.

Jennifer Hudson is brought in as Louise, hired on by Carrie as a personal assistant, but she’s the only new addition of note. On hand from the show are faves like Carrie’s pal Stanford Blanch (Willie Garson), Charlotte’s wedding planner Anthony Marentino (Mario Cantone) and Carrie’s Vogue editor, Enid Frick (Candice Bergen).

Is SATC an extended version of the show? Yep, indeed it is. Stylish, sassy, soppy and sexy, it's all there. It is at times romantic and is consistently very funny, but it's also emotionally realistic, even brutal. It plays like an episode of the series - which would be fine if the movie ran for 30 minutes. But, with a hefty running time that's well past two hours, it gets a bit tired.

In fact, it is King's writing the only thing that helps this movie rise above other similar rom coms. Think of it not as a long movie but as a half season of five or six episodes slammed together into one solid dose.
