Vintage Group continues to tighten its hold on Calgary's dining scene with the introduction of its latest venue: Rush. Already counting the eponymous Vintage Chophouse, numerous Redwater Grille locations, and the bakery, Rise, in its stable, Rush will further entrench VG in the minds and mouths of Calgary foodies.

Globally-trained Justin Leboe is at the helm, a chef who has an impressively extensive CV that features tenures at Waterloo House in Bermuda and the Belvedere at the Peninsula Hotel Beverly Hills. He also logged hours in Vancouver as a Tournant at Century Grill and a Saucier at C restaurant. His positioning at Rush is his first Calgary term.

For Rush, Leboe et al have a contemporary ethos that will have a staunch malleability thanks to a reliance on seasonal ingredients. Featuring fixed, a la carte, and tasting menus (depending on whether you're in the lounge or dining room), this is luxurious multi-pronged dining. Expect innovative art plates and an out-of-the-gate exuberance.

While the amicable host describes the room as "relaxed but elegant," Leboe has grander aspirations. His series of tasting menus feature the best of what the market has to offer that particular day, including some "outside the box" appetizer items that really delivers.

Offered in three- or five-course packages, the tasting menu rotates daily, and for slightly more timid souls, Leboe's delightful, Mediterranean-inspired menu includes plenty of classic entrées, such as caviar and lobster starter plates to a rather tame selection of mains: fork-tender pork that's been slow-cooked for 12 hours, superthick lamb chops, and a grilled halibut - served over a cushion of mashed potatoes.

    worst restaurant in the city

Top shelf from start to finish. Waiting for my date, I started with a well-executed martini in the lounge; live DJ in the corner adding a jazzy ambient vibe to the room. Dinner service was timed perfectly, served impeccably and tasted nothing shy of amazing. My gf and I eat out a fair bit, and that night she commented that Rush was probably the best experience we've had to date. Nice touches like the pre meal amuse bouche and the homemade granola loot bags at the end. We will definitely be back.

NIce setting, good to great, but $$ food.
However - Service Sucked - totally took away from a great room, nice food.
Had amuse bouche (canapes) placed in front of us - then all waiters disappeared. We got to guess at what we had been served. Same thing happened when our main course was delivered.
I think it was our waiter's first day - when I asked about a menu selection, all he was able to provide was a mumbled word for word recital of the menu.
I will give points to the sommelier for helping to choose a reasonably priced wine - we needed it to help us get through the night.
At least we didn't get plates dropped on us like 2 other tables did (really!!) that night.

The tandoori chicken was good but that's about it....can find better food(the home cooked taste) in other local Indian restaurants.

During our visit there was an argument amongst staff and customer and it made all of my friends uncomfortable being at the restaurant.

The staff was slow to serve and the receipts were hand written??? The decor was fine but didn't understand why they can't afford a billing machine???

The decor in this restaurant is amazing. We ate in the lounge and the food was mediocre.Way too many deep-fried items. I had the buttermilk chicken which had a lot of skin, gristle and fat in it.
Also, not sure if it is because of the construction out front but it was dead in there for a Saturday night. If you're looking for a bustling atmosphere, this is not your restaurant.

Just went to Rush on Feb 13 for a Valentine's dinner and was very thrilled. This was my first visit, but my husband had been before. The menu was great and good value (that night they had a $75/person for 3 course including wine pairings - as well as the regular menu). I wasn't very fond of the appetizer, but everything else was wonderful. They also had live music that night, which contributed to the overall ambiance, and had complimentary valet parking (which the server said was a test for that weekend, but they were looking at doing it full time). I also took a look at the regular menu and the lounge menu, both of which looked really yummy...will certainly be back. (The service was impeccable, except for a delay in finding our coats at the end of the night)

Lunch @ $30/per and no choice of pricing but pay what they suggest. Was disappointed that the dining room lunch had a set price???? Heard the lounge is cheaper and you get the same menu. Aside from that, classy place, staff was excellent, attentive service to please, and the food was awesome. Would go back and recommend it.

I don't get it. It's cheap, but that's about it.

Was at Rush last night, it was nothing short of fantastic. the space is all class, great lounge, and the food is even more elegant than the decor.

I had the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings and I would highly recommend it. There was five courses with two complimentary tastings to start off and an extra plate of house made sweets to top it off. I am a big fan of the french style of eating, a variety of well planned and well balanced dishes/flavours. The wine choices were perfect.

The service was very professional. The price tag was big but well worth it in my mind.

    Overall, 95%.

The minute you enter the door, you know this is going to be special! The interior is nicely designed, the wait staff is elegantly dressed, no detail has been missed.

Over hyped-big time. Have you guys been to good restaurants before. Halibut served on braised cabbage (not mash) with a slab of 'pork belly' on top. That's all there was except for 1 piece of bacon. Too many people doing the same job, and no one seemed to know what the next guy was doing. Had to ask for too many things-also had to refill own wine glasses. Haughty attitude when menu pricing question. Only 1 person got real veggies and their main was served on a bed of peas. Lovely room, but no buzz of people enjoying themselves-way too many $$$ for this attitude. Dpn't go- it just isn't worth it.

But DI.... sure the place is fine (went there myself over the weekend), it's just that, even to me, Sandra R's praise seemed a little over-the-top. Like it came from an owner, or someone in the house.

Nonetheless, Rush is admittedly a good addition. Some kinks to work out though.

Nothing spectacular or creative. Just your run of the mill good restaurant. The food is better and cheaper at area places.

Exquisite atmosphere; gorgeous, innovative cuisine; attentive service (all staff were excellent, enthusiastic with impeccable table service). Can't wait to dine at the Chef's Table or "experience" the extensive wine room. This posh sanctuary is a luxurious jewel and will soon become the place to see and be seen in the heart of Calgary!
