Sushi Gone downhill. Expensive and tiny. left unsatisfied with a hole in pocket and emptiness in my stomach. Who cares about the cheap Pocky. You can get those at any asian store. Give better quality rolls and make them a reasonable size. Will not be going back.
Lucky for us, Peter was not there that day. As for comments by "Taken Back" we support you! We would be seriously offended if we were asked to leave because we "overstayed" This just cements our decision to vote with our feet and dollar. Im surprised you gave 3 stars.

So Good! My Favorite Place to eat! Sushi and Sushimi are always good, and everything doesn't come all at the same time so you have time to enjoy your meal without being overwhelmed. Very well priced and always a fun time with Peter!
People who complain about Peter ordering them to leave and his brand of entertainment such as threatening them with a knife. I say Good! don't go back! 'Cause that means I get your table sooner and YOU don't ruin the FUN for the rest of the people that actually go to Kinjo for this sort of entertainment.
If you wan't a bland-no-personality Sushi bar staff that has been americanized then I suggest you go somewhere else.
As for me, I like a little excitement with my meals. :) Kampai!

Horrible service, food and experience. If Peter is the manager then that explains why there is such a lack of customer service. This person has no clue. He walks around telling people to do "tricks" for his pocky sticks. He asked our 5 year old daughter to say something and she didnt want to. He then pulled out his knife and tried to say something funny. It wasnt. He then told her "then you dont get any!" and rudely walked away. Our daughter told me she was scared of his knife. He then came back later and proclaimed to us that we were the only ones in the restaurant who didnt get one.
The food was cold for the most part and not very good. We will never go back!

I met Peter before Kinjo's. I always looked forward to enjoying sushi at Kinjo's and sampling their new creations. I liked the staff, especially some of the main chefs. Over time, you get to know them and generally socialize with them while enjoying your favorites and trying something new. I met up with a friend that I had not seen in 15 years and bragged about Kinjo's. As usual, Peter's abode was hustling and bustling and we waited for a booth. After we sat down and ordered, we starting catching up! One hour and 15 mins whizzed by and Peter approached our table and asked us to leave even with food still on the table. I explained that I had not seen my friend in 15 years. Peter told me not to come here next time, handed me another box of Poxies, smiled and pointed to the door stating that he has 500 people passing through his doors and that there were people waiting. The gentleman who wanted our booth had also come to our table with him. Peter left and the gentleman said that he probably wouldn't get the table anyway and just stood there, while I looked at him in shocked, tense silence.
The food may be good, the courtesy dishes appreciated, but never, ever ask a client to leave. By all means, go to Kinjo's, the food is great. Be warned though, do not linger, inhale your food and leave!
Sadly, I will be searching for a new sushi restaurant. Times are a changing and we must all adapt.

I have never been so insulted in my life. We were half way through our meal and were asked to move tables to accomadate a large group of people. We explained we were in the middle of our meal and did not want to move. About 5 minutes later they asked us again and offered us chocolate pocky sticks. I would never go there again the customer service is highly lacking.

I loved it! It was such a nice change from the usual service we have grown accustomed to here in Calgary...the staff were actually glad we chose their restaurant for dinner, not annoyed that they had to stop chatting with each other long enough to bring us our menus! I thought it was a nice touch having the grill and all the chefs right front and centre in the room! It was refreshing to see people in the service industry enjoy what they do and work with a smile on their faces. The free sushi and desert was a first for us, we will definitely visit again in the future.

Good, but not great. For Calgary, it is considerably better than the other choices for sushi places but objectively speaking, not that great. The "floating" sushi bar is not that much of a spectacle as it is a distraction. The boats are white so they look a bit dirty and the overall decor is a bit old. The actual flavor of the sashimi & sushi was great. Rolls were also good. However, the udon tasted very empty and flat - just noodles and broth. Very disappointing for a Japanese restaurant. The saving grace is that the owner is very charismatic and is an expert in customer relations. You should not order anything besides the sashimi and perhaps a roll or two. The other stuff is mediocre.
If you think this is the best sushi restaurant you've ever been to, you clearly haven't been to many sushi restaurants!!

My husband, my sister & I just went to Kinjo for the first time, and we have a very enjoyable experience. The overall resurant atmosphere is louder than normal, and the chefs are a energetic bunch, the wait staff were very polite and entertaining. Overall I think the atmosphere is meant to be very casual and laid back, don't go if you want a quiet posh atmosphere. Plain and simple! I've read all these reviews, and my advice to those who don't want to interact with the chefs, is to sit at the far end of the sushi bar, they are so busy to ever come down to that end, and you are able to just relax and watch the antics from afar. We enjoyed the food completely, tried many new dishes, and really loved the Japanese beers. The one other point of advice I have for people who said they waited forever for their food.....is....realize that this is a "sushi boat" type resurant, your primarily suppose to pick your food from the passing boats. On the other hand, their was a couple seated on each side of us at the sushi bar, and both ordered their full meals, and their meals did come within 15 minutes. WE WILL DEF BE GOING BACK FOR SECONDS!

Kinjo's is amazing. The owner is really nice and fun. He can be scary sometimes but that's just how he is. We have been going there since Kinjo opened and I would recommend it to any one. We have never had a bad experience. The food is always fantastic. I enjoy going there so much.

Have been eating here for three years since Kinjo opened. Outstanding value for the dollar. Eat at any other Sushi restaurant and compare for yourself. Food is fantastic particularly the Signature Dynamaite rolls.
Peter and Kinjo's food is the reason it's always packed.

Kinjo is a showman who has the right idea in how to treat his customers, but I really didn't like the food. The sushi is poor, the free appetizers were old and the place was not that neat. Sorry, but I don't think I'll be coming back.

This is the BEST sushi place I have ever been to. The sushi is soooo amazingly fresh and delicious. The owner is a little annoying, but it IS an experience. Every time we have gone there, he has given us free sushi...just to try! For everyong who thinks the owner is rude and makes too much money....quit being so negative!!
BEST SUSHI IN CALGARY!!

When he yelled at me I wanted to throw the free Pocky chocolates at him! Any owner who treats his patrons the way that we were treated can not be described as 'fantastic'.

Our group travels to Calgary to work, and we always make time for a visit to Kinjo. We've never had a bad experience -- the owner is fantastic & gives out free Pocky chocolates to patrons. It's a great place to go for dinner and a show.

My husband and I had the worst experience at Kinjo Sushi. Our waiter lost our order and we had to wait for a very long time for our food as a result. Not all of the food we ordered was served to us either. When we asked for the bill we asked for a discount because of the wait and the owner YELLED at us. He screamed that we should leave and never come back over and over again. When I tried to explain why we had asked for a discount (we did not ask for a free meal) he ignored me, was rude and insisted that the chefs apologize to us. If he had just listened...
We do not recommend this establishement to anyone. Obviously the owner makes too much money to care about his customers.

Excellent! Very good sushi, fresh and tasty. They have this yellow spicy sauce which is just awesome. Been there a few times and Peter Kinjo (owner) always comes by and threatens me with the knife if I don't repeat what he wants, its just fun. The best part is that it is very well priced (3 full happy people for about $50!). Enjoy and support this fine establishment.
