Kawa is serving light lunches and snacks of house made panini sandwiches and salads. Or grab a pastry made by the organic goddesses at Ladybug. If it's organic it means it's good for you. Look out for Kawa's transition to the nightlife; soon, they are going to start serving wine, and tapas to go with it. And if their coffee handling is any indication, rest assured you are going to be able to taste every single one of those oak-y notes.

5 Reader Reviews | Anon- I've never, not once, had a cappuccino or macchiato at Kawa that didn't come with latte art- you must have got one from somebody who's training. The pastries have sadly never been a strong point here but I've fallen hard for their chicken quesadilla- delicious and creative (made with zuke, spinach and sweet potato, far from your typical quesadilla), and I'd like to try some other food items too. But the coffee is SO much better than, say, Beano that it's not a contest. If anything, it's improved at Kawa. So I completely disagree with some of your points. But as to dirt- well the place is busier than they probably hoped for. Let's hope they keep up.

Hmm though the concept is great in nature this hip new hang out has already come to the age of beign sedate in its relaxation of its standards. The guys and girls behind the bar don't always do art on your coffee, the dust on the window is accumulating and the pastry is sadly soggy. Funny how what started so great has turned mediocre at best.

Thanks for the review of Kawa- let's hope word gets out and some of the sheeple at the nearby Starbucks get the message: There is REAL coffee right down the street!
One correction, well two: There are actually several cafes in Canada with Clover brewing devices; what I think you heard was that Java Jamboree, which is Kawa's sister establishment in Cochrane, was the second shop in Canada to have a Synesso- that's the espresso machine they use; Clover is for brewed coffee by the cup. Nowadays there are four shops in Calgary with Synessos (JJ, Kawa, Phil & Sebastian and DeVille) and more across Canada. It's still a superb machine (and if Les and Ottilia like you, you might get to play with it!) but it's years from being second in Canada.
