Il Gallo Nero has established itself in the Calgary scene over the last year, but had been waiting for the right moment to serve pizza. Now they have gained a reputation in the city for their thin crust pizza with moderate amounts of sauce. But this is not just any high end slice, Properly rested overnight, their crust's execution shows that they take themselves very seriously; and the pizza makers hails from Calabria, Italy. Pizzas are made in one standard 10 inch, with just four varieties per day, showing focus, determination, and dedication.

This is an excellent restaurant. It's a little off the beaten path, but well worth it. The exterior looks plain with frosted windows. Inside is beautiful hardwood floors and brick walls. It is very classy while still having that non fussy, home style feeling. We were greeted at the door by the owner and seated at a nice table near the back. We started with an appetizer of coldcuts, olives and cheese with fresh bread. My meal was a tortellini like pasta filled with mascarpone, panchetta and parmigano. It was delicious and the perfect serving size. The cost was $19, and well worth it! The rest of the table had a ravioli type meal with veal and the other had a dinner with salmon and prawns, both looked excellent! The deserts are tasty without being over the top. The service is very friendly, casual and attentive. This is a place perfect for anyone. I went in jeans, but there were people dressed up as well. There is FREE parking right beside the restaurant, which is rare for a downtown place. I would highly recommend this place. I think it may become one of my favorite restaurants!
