o, my experience with West Jet has been sort of “meh.” I did once get down to Florida for under $100 on a West Jet flight, but I was also scared for my life and sick on airplane food (for which I had to pay extra).
Needless to say, I was curious to hear that a West Jet restaurant has opened up a standalone location in Calgary. Would they serve airplane inspired cuisine? As it turns out, there are no compact microwaved dinners in sight, thank God. There is no frozen cutlery in the house. The theme is pure “airplane” though, and nowhere is it more apparent then in the “global” menu.
Flight Deck's menu features an “Asiana Bowl,” heading on the menu right on top of “Pub Fare” and under “Pasta.” In one sitting a diner could sample the whole world with, say, the Shanghai Spring Rolls ($8.95) to start, Richthofen’s Flying Weiner Schnitzel ($17.95) for a main and Antonov Perogies ($7.95) as a final snack.
If there was ever any doubt about the theme of the venue, order up a Flight Crew Platter or an aptly titled sandwich like the PHL Melt (pilot code, as it turns out, for Philly cheese steak) for $9.95, and you’ll be set straight in no time.
