  • Flames Central / The Wildfire Grill

    Lauren Denhartog
Flames Central / Wildfire Grill is like an upscale clubhouse for Flames fans, a combined endeavor by the Calgary Flames and Victor and Jim Choy's Concorde Entertainment Group, the marvels behind The Whiskey and Mynt Ultralounge.

Fire-engine red lights, state-of-the art stereo equipment and 150 flat-screen TV's ensures that guests will take in all of the action no matter where they sit. Housed in the former Palace Theatre, the renovation has taken three years and millions of dollars.

This is the first time that an NHL team has been directly involved with the opening of a sports lounge - and fans will not be disappointed. An enormous light fixture in the shape of the Flames' logo is suspended from the 38-foot ceilings while a 30-foot by 18-foot flat screen TV adorns the back wall of the theatre. On the first floor sits The Wildfire Grill, a casual eatery that serves lunch and dinner. Just past the Grill is Flames Central, the sports lounge which can accommodate up to 100 people and can also serve as a small venue for concerts. The second floor seats another 120 people and also houses the owners lounge while the third floor is entirely taken up by three VIP suites, each with their own private bar and washrooms.

This place has amazing tv's but is crawling with attitude. And to boot, either the draft or food always leaves me feeling ill to my stomach the next day. Having been a couple times, I will only have bottled beer and no food if I ever go back.

Even if the prices were cut in half (making them more like a neighbourhood sports bar) I would probably still skip the pretencious attitude and visit another pub or bar.
