  • Dog and Duck Public House

    Diederik Muylwyk
Once upon a time a dog came to the river's edge. The dog was a dainty thing and didn't care much for water. There he met a duck. The duck was playful and friendly, floating on the water's surface near the shore.

    "Quack," said the duck.
    "Werf," said the dog.

So they agreed that the duck would carry the dog on its back and across the river. And that's probably why they both drowned. The moral of the story: sink or swim, hair of the dog is not like water off a duck's back. - D.M.

The Dog and Duck has become our local as we only moved to Calgary from UK in January this year.
We've always received a warm welcome from the management and bar staff and the service is excellent; the staff are always on the look out for you in case you need a refill or want to see the menu. Our favourites times there are 'wing nites' on Weds and Sats when the wings are on half price (great value). I love the burgers, great with salad and extra mushrooms (YUM). The beer is always spot on. Definitely worth a visit. One note though, they are not open on Sundays.

The Dog & Duck is a great place to sit and relax with friends. It's probably Calgary's most authentic English pub, with its warm atmosphere and definitely the best Guinness in town. I've tried out most of the food the pub offers, from regular pub fare to Appetizers and English entrees, and they all taste great. My favorite, however, is the Shepherd Pie and Fish & Chips. The Dog & Duck also has one of the most unique patios in the city; it's like sitting in your own backyard. The Dog & Duck is definitely Calgary's Best Kept Secret!
