obody loves a good diner more than me - I'd travel across North America eating only at diners if I knew it wouldn't do a number on my figure. I believe my love affair with these fine dining establishments began while still a young lass, eternally glued to that gem of a television series,
Beverly Hills 90210 which of course featured the prime rib of diners, The Peach Pit.
There are many things that characterize a good diner but perhaps most important, second to the food of course, is that it encompasses the standard diner decor. You know what I'm talking about folks: old-school table and chairs accented with chrome, perhaps a tiled floor and a friendly counter where freshly baked pies sit waiting to be partnered with a hot cup of joe. Ok so maybe I've watched too many David Lynch films but Calgary's Belmont Diner is one fine feedbag complete with the marks of a good diner right down to the old milkshake mixers (and I've heard they do a shake right).
For brekkie, there's an authentic Montreal Smoked Meat Omelette as well as a unique twist on Eggs Benedict, here served with smoked salmon on a croissant.
Anyone who feels right at home in a diner (who doesn't?) ought to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Calgary and drop by the Belmont, it's like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket.
