Bags are great. During the Green Revolution, they have evolved into long-term companions. You can fill them with whatever you want. Groceries? Sure. Shoes? Yep. Bodies? I guess. Lac? Um, okay.

Bagolac may have bags, but it definitely has Vietnamese fare; plenty of it. It also has plenty of loyal customers. That said, it can be damn busy. The room - unlike the menu - isn't huge, but it is clean and accommodating. Get their early, especially at lunch. -S.T.

While I'll admit that the service can be a bit unorganized I have never experienced the issues poor old Trevor was rambling about. Terribly sorry to hear about your six and half minutes of waiting before your "present" was acknowledged. You must be mute as well...

Are you sure you were at the right restaurant? I've never had an experience remotely like yours and I've been eating at that restaurant about once a month since I moved to the area 4 years ago.

    Suck it up sister!

I am a huge fan of vietnamese cuisine have been for years, but my recent visit to Bagolac Saigon in Calgary made it difficult to stomach even the thought of eating another bite. My impression of the place was that of, well nothing really. It's very bland inside and it looks like a large public washroom with booths, tables and bad art. Now don't get me wrong some of the best meals I have ever had the pleasure of tasting have been from restaurants that boast less than desirable eye candy. In those cases usually the service and the quality of the food make up for anything the restaurant lacks in decor.
Bagolac Saigon however, has no redeeming qualities.

It did not seem busy when I arrived yet oddly it took nearly six and a half minutes for anyone to acknowledge my present and show me to a table. They really take the phrase "wait to be seated" too far. Next as I glanced over the menu, I chose Lemongrass Chicken on Rice Vermicelli with Spring Rolls, a dish that I have had at nearly every other vietnamese restaurant I have been to. A good way to see how different restaurants compare. Another interesting thing was, I was forced to order a drink. I usually just enjoy water with meals as I do not like to drink while I eat, but I was informed that I couldn't eat there unless I ordered a drink. Interesting...

On to the food, it was terrible. The chicken was slimy, the dish its self cold, the fish sauce smelled like a sardine can that had been sitting in the sun all day and the lettuce they put in the dish was brown and unappealing. The spring rolls were soggy and tasted "funny". I thought that some hot sauce would possibly liven the food up a bit so I reached for the bottle. Bad move, right beside the bottle of hot chili sauce were several dead flies, large ones. Needless to say I lost my appetite and didn't even finish my food, trying not to smell the fish sauce as I waited another eight minutes for the server to come by to take it away, and another 10 minutes for my bill!!!
The service was as bad as the food which was extremely overpriced and now that I think of it, maybe it was the whole restaurant that smelled fishy... Excuse me as try to forget.

I spoke to a friend afterwards and was so appalled that I decided to share my experience with her. She had told me that the restaurant is under new management recently and from what she heard, it has been horrible ever since. I wish I had spoke to her beforehand...
