Most people are unaware, but Baba Ka Dhaba is the Indian form of the phrase, "Abra Kadabra!." Man, you people will believe anything.
This tiny East Indian Restaurant serves some of the spiciest Indian food around- so get a big glass of milk to quench the fire. They offer classic Indian fare, such as pakore vegetarian curry, chicken pilao, and kheer (rice pudding). The prices are extremely reasonable, which makes it perfect for take out.
Although the restaurant isn’t really the it-spot for a romantic dinner, it’s great for a quick meal or take-out. They also have daily specials, such as butter chicken or mixed daal. If you love cheap Indian fare that doesn't keep you in the bathroom all morning, give Baba's a try.*
*Disclaimer: I cannot promise you won't spend 3 hours in the bathroom the next morning. Eat Indian food at your own risk.

4 Reader Reviews | Ohhh Bab Ka Dhaba, How I love thee...
So I will begin by saying if you have ever complained about water spots on your wine glass or sent back a meal because you found an eyelash in your mashed potatoes, this is not the place for you. However, if you have scarfed down the most delicious chicken and rice you have ever had in your life, served by a dirty handed, breast feeding mama in an el salvadorian open air market and thought, "man, this rocks"...then head to the hood for so awesome grub!!
Baba Ka Dhaba is a tiny hole in the wall on 17th Avenue SE and the homestyle indian fare they offer is about as good as it gets. The Chicken Tikka, made fresh to order (and it takes some time) is perfectly prepared, charred a little on the outside but the meat is juicy and tender, the tikka spices are authentic and bold. I also love the Chicken Saag, pureed spinach with lots of intense spices, whole cardamom pods and cloves and big chunks of chicken!! I usually eat all this wrapped up the naan bread, which my best friend appropriately refers to as "angel wings". They are not licensed but if you're on a date I'm sure you could bring your own white wine spritzers in your Starbucks travel mug!! Be creative and enjoy!!

I counted 12 seats in this restaurant, but don't let that stop you from eating, what I believe is the best tasting food in Calgary. I know that's a BIG statement, but the value here is exceptional and the taste... darn it all, I'm salivating just writing this review.
Limited daily menu selection, limited seating, but unlimited flavour and value for the dollar.
It's a typical "hole in the wall" that you would drive by without ever stopping by unless someone pointed it out to you. Consider yourself lucky, you've now been pointed in the right direction for intensely rich, flavourful, satisfying portions of authentic curries, daals, rice dishes...and the Naan, don't even get me started on the Tandoori oven baked Naan.
