The name alone connotes luxury. "Astor" is synonymous with the finer things, conjuring images of throwback touches. Like any SoBe hotel worth its salt, Hotel Astor has an Art Deco proclivity, yet also employs modern touches aplenty.
Original 1936 Vitrolite panels keep the throwback charm alive. That said, contemporary nods are present. Rooms and suites range from the tiny to the spacious. Given the confines, it's worth the upgrade to at least a junior suite, just so you can stretch your legs.
Amenities are thorough, with all of the usual posh-hotel roster in attendance. One of the main attractions, though, is the recently minted restaurant, Maison D'Azur.
Still in its infancy, Maison turns to the French Riviera for inspiration, in terms of both decor and menu. It surpasses the standard "hotel restaurant" tag with aplomb. The malleable menu is fittingly Mediterranean and offers gems on a daily basis.
Despite the highly regarded fare, the true draw could be the confines, which boast cabanas and dark, playful luxury. Intimate but colorful, it's a great place to settle in for an entire evening of bites and nips.
The SoBe location is no joke. Astor lives in the midst of it all. Near shops, nightlife, restaurants, sundry revelry opportunities, and, naturally, the beach, it's a great place to start your Miami visit.
