ith the Michael Lee Chin Crystal making such a big stink in Toronto last summer and the Crystal Castles rampant rise to international stardom a trend is beginning to surface. Now there is a brand spanking new hotel to add to the crystal craze roster; Hôtel Le Crystal.
Located at the corner of rue de la Montagne and René-Levesque, the new installment, true to its name, looks like a mature twenty-sevenstory crystal.
The impressive building is paneled completely with silver metal sheets that give it a crystal sheen. It fits right in with Montreal’s icy “look” in the winter months, but there is a chance it may stick out like a sore thumb during the summertime. Lucky for it, Montreal’s summer is short-lived.
The rooms of the hotel will reside in the lower half of the building, leaving the upper floors to condo owners. This will create an interesting mix of people as the live-ins will constantly have to run into the foreign tourists in the sauna, for instance. But the important thing is that there is a sauna. And an indoor pool. And an outdoor terrace. And a four-season outdoor hot tub. And a fireplace room to relax in. So maybe intermingling won’t be so bad.
Thankfully, politics usually don’t come up in conversation around the hot tub.
The hotel’s other amenities include windows that open (gasp!), free daily newspapers to every room, 24-hour room service, a fitness centre and exclusive spa packages. The 131 hotel suites are decorated to the nines with pillow-topped mattresses, silk sheets, rain showers, deep soak tubs, WI-FI, flat screen TVs and espresso machines.
Being situated right across the street from the Bell Centre, Hôtel Le Crystal is the perfect spot to crash while in town for the latest Leafs / Habs game or the Bon Jovi tour. Prepare to be dazzled. –J.T.
