he Hôtel Omni Mont-Royal is the most well-rounded shack-up in Montreal. When appraising hotels to potentially be put up in, most people consider the location, the rooms, the amenities and the in-house food. The OMNI gets full marks for all of the above.
Located on the buzzing strip of Sherbrooke between the city’s two major universities, guests can expect an entertaining slew of fashionable young uni students parading past for their people-watching pleasure. With the whole of Montreal’s shopping, dining, artistic and partying destinations no more than a half hour’s walk from the hotel, tourists couldn’t hope to get any more central than this.
There are three hundred rooms in the hotel. All of them are decorated in a plush Quebecois extravagance with lots of deep colours, floral fabrics and warm lighting. On one side of the hotel the rooms open up to a spectacular view of the mountain. And, yes, the windows actually do open.
The full-service Amerispa is located right in the hotel for guests’ relaxation and rejuvenation. There’s nothing like a quick facial and pedicure to brighten a bad mood or start off a great day. Or step into the dry sauna, steam bath or whirlpool for an unwinding soak after a hard workout in the resident 6,600 square foot fitness centre.
The house restaurant is called Zen. It serves up award-winning Chinese food with European flare. Drop in for an eggroll post-seaweed mask. –J.T.
