azz on the Park is a hostel in the Upper West Side of NYC, and the largest hostel in their network. The hostel has a group of private hotel-style rooms, so have no fear. They are exceptionally classy and quite fancy- for a hostel.
The beds are wrought iron and actually nice in the double private room ($75). A twin private is $45, while a 4 bed mixed dorm is $32. You cant really beat those prices, as long as you’re comfortable bunking with a few strangers. The hostel claims to be extremely clean, safe, and very social. The atmosphere is meant to keep people partying, making friends, and feel entirely welcome.
If you just want to go to sleep, don’t worry- the private rooms are located in a completely separate building around the corner. Guests do have the opportunity of enjoying regular jazz evenings, summer barbecues, and the café.
Many of the most sought after NYC attractions are located within blocks, such as the Museum of Natural History and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The hostel offers lockers in each room, free breakfast, linens and towels, and I quote, “no curfew and a sensible drinking policy.” Basically, all you partiers have been given the green light to stumble around drunkenly- which is all the more reason to get a private room if you gotta get your beauty sleep. -S.B.
