The quirky Gersh understands artists, crafty types and eccentrics alike don’t always have access to fund their inspired lifestyle devoted to their art (not everyone has a slew of wealthy patrons). If you can endure the idiosyncrasies that the Gershwin attracts, then a discount bunk bed awaits, where you may absorb some peculiar traits through osmosis yourself.
The location is key, as it is around the corner from the Empire State Building. The hotel's feel is extremely artsy and unique, as the picture to the right shows the bright red facade and crazy balloon orbs gracing the building.
For entertainment purposes, the Floor Fabuloso (Fourth Floor) is a self-pronounced up-and-coming model domain where a nightly hallway Catwalk competition for the top bunk is a reality. Those with money to spare that need free-spirited lodging can hole up in the Cozy Canadian Cocoon with their desired companions. Hubba Hubba.
Rooms run as low as $40, which is for Auberge, fancy-talk for bunk beds.. The Essential is $109, which is a double bed. Le Standard is bigger and has more amenities than the Essential, and runs from $119-$200. Suites cost anywhere between $249- $329, which is pretty cheap considering they even have a refrigerator for longer stays.
It's almost hard to believe that the picture on the right is actually the hotel, but believe it. I know it looks slightly circus-freak-ish, but doesn't all art?
