hile I love the ACC and all the fantastic views of the arena below, my heart still pangs for the old Maple Leaf Gardens and all the magic that's stored within the historic hockey emporium. This landmark that represents, for many individuals, all things Canadian will soon have a luxury boutique hotel perched within Maple Leaf Square courtesy of Canadian hotelier group Le Germain.
Though the notorious rivalry between the Canadiens and Leafs might spark some controversy (the Le Germain hotel group is based in Quebec after all), discerning sports fans alike will appreciate the modern décor and high-tech amenities each room features – perfect for the big game. Fortunately they will avoid the camp theme, as Ms. Germain assures "there will be no white-and-blue bedrooms".
If you’re looking for a more social environment to share the “oooohs and awws” when the game gets down to the nitty gritty, you can take advantage of the Sports bar and restaurant below where shout outs to the building’s history will be the main design theme (also evident in the hotel’s décor scheme as well, but with a lighter touch). Le Germain plans to open its doors to nostalgic fans in 2010. –E.J.
