Opus Hôtel MontréalGive me your best “O” face. Your Opus Hotel face - what did you think I meant? Do you feel excitement? Intrigue? Surprise? Satisfaction? Any one of these reactions is aptly suited upon viewing the renewed space, formerly Hotel Godin. The sleek boutique hotel, complete with 135 rooms, offers urban visitors a prime downtown hub from which they can conduct their business while visiting the bilingual city. If you’re in the mood for play, the plethora of clubs, restaurants and shopping are within minutes from the lobby.

With the re-branding of this boutique hotel, a slew of wonderful services are now at your disposal. Valet parking, complimentary high speed wireless internet, in-room massages, a 24-hour fiitness centre and of course the necessary room service in case a bottle of champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries become essential during your trip.

Of course, you should be enlightened on the hotel's architectural history that makes this boutique space so unique. The building, built in 1914 by Joseph-Arthur Godin (hence the former brand's namesake) was designed in the Art Nouveau style. Back in the day, it was a big deal to local Montrealers that this was the first poured concrete building in the city. Though this tidbit of historical info may only appease the minds of contractors and architectural enthusiasts alike (Brad Pitt included), it influenced the modern interior renovation completed by architect Dan Hanganu of Montreal and interior designer Yabu Pushelberg of New York, as you will note from the attached concrete addition to the hotel.

Besides this expansion, one of the most exciting plans in the works is the establishment of the five-star dining space and bar that Godin never opened due to initial trouble obtaining liquor licenses. This sexy lounge will unite cosmopolitan visitors (only an elevator ride away) with hip Montrealers that want to mingle over cocktails and tapas to the tunes of the city’s most stellar DJ’s. In the next few months, expect big things from Opus. Now let me see that “O” face again. –E.J.
