he Library Hotel is located on Madison Avenue, just steps away from the New York Public Library. But there’s no need to bother going; there are over 6,000 volumes in your hotel, organized by the Dewey Decimal System. The hotel, too, is organized by the Dewey Decimal System. Each of the 10 floors is dedicated to one of the categories of the DDC, from Social Sciences to Math & Science. The hotel opened in August of 2000, and has been going strong ever since.
And each room is themed accordingly. Stay in a philosophy room amongst shelves of Nietzsche and Kierkegaard with wall hangings of Plato and Aristotle. Or stay in the Political Science room and read up on Winston Churchill’s memoirs. Or, if you’re really feeling adventurous, why not check out the Erotic Literature room. I’ll let you imagine what you might find there.
Each room is small but well decorated. Aside from all the themed art and books, you’ll also find a number of top-shelf amenities, such as individual temperature control, complimentary DVD player with the American Film Institute’s top 100 films, complimentary breakfast buffet, and complimentary wine and cheese from 5 until 8 pm. Unlike many other hotels, the Library Hotel really treats the word ‘guest’ seriously. You’ll feel the hospitality from the Poetry Terrace to the Writer’s Den. Rooms run from $342 for a single, and $421 for a deluxe queen room.
