veryone deserves a little getaway now and then especially during the summer months when cottage country beckons from afar (oh sweet, sweet Georgian Bay). For us pet owners, a perpetual challenge presents itself as soon as Friday rolls around: who can we ask to feed the dog? (or cat, in my case, Otis) According to the owner of Montreal’s newest pet hotel, Linda Zago, pets need a little r & r too. If you believe that pampering need not apply to our fuzzy friends, maybe you’d better not keep reading.
Set within downtown Montreal, Hotel Muzo is a four-star dwelling designed to pamper your little pooch or princess. With a mission statement that aims to improve the quality of life for ‘urban’ dogs and cats, Hotel Muzo, is only the latest development in a trend that has seen dog spas and bakeries popping up in thriving metropolises everywhere.
Somehow ‘dog’ and ‘luxury’ seem at odds in the same sentence, but if its pampering you’re after, the 80-square foot luxury suite is available for $100/night and comes with a custom-made bed, flat-screen TV, webcam (so you can check up from afar) and three walks a day on the canal. The hotel also boasts a games room, boutique and a private club (as in health club) so your pooch won’t put on any weight while on vacation (I’m picturing two St. Bernard’s spotting for each other). Suddenly the term, ‘all dogs go to heaven’ has new meaning. -L.D.
