It may not include a gym, or a flashy cocktail bar. It may be traditional (a.k.a old), and small. It may only offer basic amenities, but I will tell you what it does have—clean, cheap rooms. And we all love the sound of those words, but won’t always admit to the later.
Even if you usually spend your millions on a original Renoir or a collection of Chanel watches, well frankly folks it’s time to stop! Now is not the time to be frivolous. This newly renovated seven storey, fifty-six room hotel, sits in a hotbed of good times.
What’s nearby? You have a selection of fine food spots. From steak to seafood. Man grub to pretty garnishes and expensive wine. Food is around, you just going to have to, I dare say it—go outside.
Feeling a bit more artsy? Right—you bought a Renoir remember? Knee slappers aside, any tourist or city slicker will find a theatre, a shopping plaza, a cultural landmark, or something music oriented (and yes team Johnny Slickster whom plays the banjo outside the subway does count).
The Hotel Victoria does indeed have its own cozy restaurant, open daily from 7-3PM. Think of this as an enticing way to get your rear-end out of bed and get going with the day, oh and of course see Johnny Slickster, he’ll be rocking sweet melodies-- same spot, and most likely at the same time. It’s magic.
As mentioned the hotel does not have a gym. But Hotel Vic’ does roll with the big guns---Goodlife passes are given to guests, and by given I mean guests can purchase them—nothing comes for free, except the entertainment of you know Mr. J.S.
Sports fans can rejoice knowing that the ACC (Air Canada Centre) home of Toronto Raptors and Maple Leafs is blocks away so while the women shop on Bloor, the men can drink beer and scream. Or vice versa. Oh and, the Yonge subway stop is ridiculously close.
Breathe easy knowing the Hotel Victoria is smoke-free. It is also full of free wireless, Internet complimentary to all guests. That's as far modern as you'll get.
The rooms may remind you of you auntie Nora’s sleeping quarters, but these small, floral-heavy rooms are comfortable and practically spotless. So again, big on the clean thing is a check.
If your looking for a trendy, state of the art, upscale venue that is all about bountiful fabrics and luxurious flatscreens—this may not be your cup of tea. However, if you're looking for a place that has a distinct feel about it (a sort of longevity and historical presence), a comfortable and safe night’s rest and a reasonable priced, central hotel, Hotel Victoria’s worth a shot.
