outh Beach has no shortage of hotels. If you need somewhere to stay, you definitely won’t be pressed for options. And, to tell you the truth, there’s not much to differentiate them. After a while they all start to look the same: Art Deco aesthetic, proximity to the hip and artsy South Beach neighborhood, a couple pools, blah blah blah.
In order for a South Beach hotel to be worth picking over all the other ones, there has to be some special quality that sets it apart. Each of the 28 suites at the Savoy is between 575 and 1,400 square feet, well furnished, with oversized marble bathrooms, kitchens, couches, and complimentary toiletries. Sounds pretty good, but you can also find rooms very similar at one of the countless other upscale cookie-cutter hotels around Ocean Drive.
Okay, so what about amenities then? The Savoy gives you all the resort standards: 24 hour concierge, en-suite balconies, ATM, poolside gym. Sounds a little above average, but still not enough to really set it apart. The two pools are nice, surrounded by tropical foliage, and with drink service. But still, not enough to sell me on it.
So why would we even consider featuring the Savoy hotel, then, if it’s just like all the other resort hotels on South Beach? The answer lies in its location, the only hotel on South Beach located directly on the beach. The private beach access means that you can grab a fancy umbrella’d drink and lounge in the sand without the noisy crowds spoiling the serenity. That’s what makes the Savoy worth choosing.
Of course, if noisy crowds are your thing, just grab a reservation at any South Beach hotel, get on your best sequined dress, and hit one of the many Miami clubs. But if it's relaxation and sun that you're looking for, the Savoy is a good choice.
