haracter is the name of the game, here. Abingdon Guest House insists that it is neither a hotel, nor a Bed & Breakfast. It’s a Guest House, you dig? That means no meals included, and no managers or hotel staff living under the same roof. This certifies a significant amount of privacy, perfect for a Romantic getaway weekend. And why not? The location couldn’t be better, located right in the heart of the historically arty and charming Greenwich Village. The nine rooms in the two townhouses are just as charming as the surrounding neighborhood, each themed and priced differently.
The most expensive room, the Ambassador Room, boasts a British Raj theme, a kitchenette, and a sofa bed for a third person, while every room includes a high-quality mattress and bed, many of which are four-poster affairs, and an en suite private bathroom. Every room emanates an old-fashioned residential quality, such that you could easily imagine Henry James staying there while writing Washington Square (that is, if Henry James could also enjoy free high-speed internet). If you want a Holiday Inn style hotel, then this is not the place. But if you’re going to be visiting New York, why not go for an authentic New York experience?
