he Royal York boasts a noble heritage, winning the prize for theatricality, with a classic structure and all the posh accouterments within. It's a nice nod to the theater district and certainly cuts against the grain of anonymous architecture. Rooms are bright, with wooden armoires lending charm of its heyday. In-room coffee makers are welcome news for travelers who can't wait for hotel's six restaurants and lounges to open.
Rooms look very much like they did in 1929: individually furnished in grand English and French styles, with views that overlook the city. Compared to the formality of downstairs, they are surprisingly intimate - small, but with quilted curtains and big double beds with satin bedspreads. Hotel services include conference facilities and a fitness center, and there is a parking garage attached. All in all, a spectacular location, a historic hotel, right on the edge of downtown.
