Loden HotelIn order to reflect Vancouver’s beautiful scenery without obscuring the view, Coal Harbour’s newest hotel utilizes a glass exterior that will blend in with the natural environment (so much so that many a bird casualty is to be expected). A L.A. hotel group has joined forces with a San Fran design team to offer BC a taste of the sunnier West Coast.

Joining the plethora of condos and office buildings in the area, the 77-room Loden Hotel will convert the upper level of a neighbouring office tower, thus marrying the building into the area. Of course the usual fitness centre, party rooms and penthouse amenities are expected however the rooms will be unique in their design that has a somewhat retro feel (think ‘50s and think Boggie’s office in Sabrina). In addition, a restaurant led by chef Marc-Andre Choquette will welcome guests to enjoy some high-end West coast dining. The urban retreat will cater to visiting business clientele that are tired of the usual chains.

The Loden was originally slated to open September 2007, but several delays have pushed the opening date back to March 2008. The project developer, Amacon, reportedly became dogged down with other projects and had to realign workers to other developments to keep up with demand. Consequently, it will be a little bit longer before you can call this innovative concept hotel your home for a few nights. Good things come to those who wait, though.
